In 1980, the Seven Oaks School Division identified a need for before and after school child care. The North YM/YWCA responded by opening three programs in 1981. These programs were located at Elwick School, A.E. Wright School, and James Nisbet School (later moved to O.V. Jewitt School).

A parent Board of Directors was formed at each centre in 1984 and shortly thereafter the three centres were incorporated into one organization - the O. K. Before & After School Child Care Centres Inc. - providing care to 90 children in the community. In 1989, the North YM/YWCA opened the Constable E. Finney Before and After School Child Care Centre Inc.

We provide a mixed age group to allow the children to learn from one another, share experience and abilities, and develop peer relationships in varying ages and abilities. We organize learning to enhance children's physical, social/emotional, and creative growth and development. Play is used as a context for learning where children can explore, experiment, discover and problem solve in imaginative and playful ways.
Our Kindergarten program implements an emergent and pedagogical play-based curriculum that is centered on learning opportunities and teachable moments initiated by the children. Play experiences and projects are planned by educators to match the skills, interests and unique needs of the specific children they are working with.
Our emergent play-based School-Age program allows early childhood educators to gain greater insight into the needs of each individual child, allowing for thoughtful and personalized programming. Our curriculum is based entirely on the children's interests. This emergent approach continues to evolve as the children's curiosity and desire for new information changes.
