Optometrists have not been able to have meaningful discussions with the government for the past 30 years. They have no formal negotiation contract with the government like teachers, nurses and physicians do. So the government has the ability to turn a blind eye and ignore Optometry with no repercussions.

The Ministry of Health has ignored all requests to sit down and have discussions through these past 8 months. The OAO has sat down with the ministry twice since then, and the government proposed an 8% increase which would still require optometrists to subsidize over 40% of the COST to deliver an eye exam.

BE CAREFUL
We had appointments last fall approx. early November 2020 and my wife was told she should get a field test.
She was then charged EXTRA on our eye exam for the service at that time.
We do not have insurance to cover any of these cost.
The appointment was then Late May 2021.
Then once my wife arrived to a darkened office the exam was performed by the person that answers the phone and had no idea what anything meant.
We receive no followup results.
We can't help thinking this is a bit of a scam, and while we waited for the appointment they had our money for months.
