With nearly 40 years of experience under his belt, Andy Aelbers is a leading force in the BC marine scene. A rigger by trade, Andy started work at a number of local shipyards before joining Key Marine Industries. He was invited to Germany to become a certified Liebherr Crane technician.

Services
The deepsea shipping business in British Columbia has an extreme diversity in the types of vessels and cargoes handled. All of these types of vessels present different challenges in terms of the range of requirements for regular maintenance and emergency repairs. In addition, we have a vast network of proven subcontractors who can handle every specialized technical requirement that may arise.
We have a team of master tradesmen, including welders, machinists, fitters and riggers who work to the highest standards. We can work from existing schematic drawings or collaborate with our draftsman and engineers as required. If it has been fabricated for use on the waterfront, there's a good chance that we made it.
A key element in the marine industry is the ability to back up products and services supplied with proper certification. This can include mill certificates, class approval certificates and Transport Canada compliant certification. From the very start, A-1 Marine has always built its reputation with impeccable documentation, including certificates backed up with its in-house and onsite testing regime.
A-1Marine provides specialized service for container handling machines, whether they are top picks, reach stackers or empty handlers. We take care of all makes and models, and can do custom fabrication. For many years, A-1 Marine has manufactured twist lock pins for machines at container terminals and off-dock operations.
In the spring of 2017, A-1 was contracted by ZPMC, the world's largest manufacturer of dock container cranes, to provide the skilled labour and project management for the local discharge and commissioning work on two new dock gantry cranes. We also undertook extra work with the goal of improved workplace safety and enhancing the longevity of the cranes.
