Thatch Pub & Restaurant
Hornby Island Resort is located on the waterfront right next to the ferry landing. A smaller resort - rural in nature and rustic in heart. Facilities include a neighbourhood pub, licensed family restaurant and a dock in the summertime. As the only watering hole on Hornby, the Thatch Pub and Restaurant offers full service, licensed dining at the water's edge.

You can find everything from home-made soups and salads to lunch and dinner specials, great burgers, and fish & chips (of course there is much more). There's no better place to enjoy great food and great staff, all with a gorgeous waterfront view from a deck cantilevered over the bay. With the close proximity to the ferry terminal, you can also get take-out service for those in a hurry.
Services
Come to The Gift Shop at the Thatch for local artists, jewelers, and potters. We carry pieces you can't find anywhere else on the island, and we have work from crafters who have irregular shop hours. Graham, a long time Hornby resident, constructs floating worlds of funky buildings and hand made boats.
Check out this board for entertainment coming to the Pub. Every Friday night for the past 20+ years, you can catch local Jazz musicians playing in the Pub from 7-10p. There is also a spectacular Baron of Beef buffet to go along with the music. Come early to get a good seat. There are many other special events, such as B.C. Day, with festivities throughout the afternoon such as the build-bail-and-sail, a dog show and tug of war.

It has been a while since I have been there but it was a very nice small and relaxing pub.

Sandy and the Staff at Thatch Pub are great. We had a small group of cyclists doing a fundraising ride and stopped at The Thatch Pub for lunch. She had us set up Socially Distanced away from others per COVID19 guidelines but close enough we could talk without interfering with other patrons. Food, service and views were all great ... Highly recommend Thatch Pub.

It's a nice enough pub and the menu is fine but they share the kitchen with another business and failed to come up with my food before the ferry arrived. More than half an hour!
Bar man was excellent.
Waitress was less than excellent.
I had to light a fire under her to get my food to go.

A legend among local pubs, the thatch is the best place for the perfect combo of beer pub food pool and live music all whilst sitting at the edge of the ocean on a magic Island. Jonah Wiig playing trombone.

A convenient place for drinks and eats while you wait for the ferry. Or just come for the pub food and enjoy their great views overlooking the water while the interior sports a typical dimmer pub atmosphere. And it looks like they have live music here as a regular event.

Great local watering hole and restaurant with simple but well done meals. My salad had chick peas! Quesadillas, burgers. Soups. Salads. Good beers on Tap. Note that there is a separate restaurant and pub side. A little more expensive for what You get but you need two ferries to get here! Great unparalleled views from patio. And you can listen to the crickets!

I always used to like The Thatch and would go often for a pint and snacks with friends. However, they now allow smokers to stand right by the open patio door. The servers seem oblivious to the problem even though BC laws prohibit smoking that close to the door and further stipulate that the doors to a patio where smoking is allowed must remain closed except to enter or exit.

Even one smoker standing there fills the pub with smoke through the open door and it's extremely oppressive.

Ahhh, The Thatch. Now this is my pace. Mature waitresses, simple food, sticky tables, and a lovely view. Really, it reminds me of my hometown of Ladner.

My extended fam comes here every Sunday, and I can see why. It's really just adorable and charming in a way that doesn't make you want to Instagram everything. It's just a pub. Nothing fancy... except for the toasted almonds they put on the veggie burger. What a nice touch. So fancy.

Speaking of veggie burgers... the veggie burger is DAMN good. Probably one of the best I've had. I miss Hornby, but what I really miss is the

The calamari was incredible. The seasoning was a cross between bruschetta and lemon Greek seasoning and we couldn't get enough. The halibut burger was flavourful and fresh. Loved it. My only note to the restaurant is not a criticism...it's purely personal choice. The chairs outside are the plastic patio chairs and after a couple of ferry rides on a Harley I like sitting in something more substantial. No biggie...if it really was a big deal I could've moved to one of the other areas. Again, it's just a personal choice.
The staff were so friendly. The right amount of chitchat

This place has good pub style food, with an amazing view from the patio. Burgers are very tasty and they have excellent fries. A bit pricey for burger add-ons (avocado, cheese, mushrooms) that often already come on the burgers at other places, but still pretty solid value for money.
They also have island farms ice cream so you can always just stop in for a cone! Would definitely recommend this place - especially if on a hot summer day!

Food and service is far, far slower than you can imagine. If you are in the ferry line infront of this place you do NOT have enough time to order food. You need 2+ sailing waits to have enough time. Plan on spending 2 hours here for lunch. Food is decent when it arrives but takes about 60 minutes from ordering to arriving at your table.
The patio is lovely, the view is fantastic decent selection of cocktails and beers but very, very slow.
