Classical Martial Arts Centre
Sensei Kenney is a wonderful instructor. I found him informative, patient and generous with his time. My husband and I enjoy his classes. I have a slight injury and I never feel pushed to go beyond what I feel I can do. The school teaches us a combination of martial arts that I feel offer a well rounded perspective.

Sensei Kenney offers a good speed for a beginner while keeping us disciplined to learn terminology and technique. Great place for a workout. I have been training at the Canadian Martial Arts Centre for four years. Sensei Kenney is a very knowledgeable and patient instructor with complete dedication to teaching the fundamental truths of classical martial arts.

Kita Yama means "big mountain." Mountains are a measure of consistency and steadfastness which is why the symbolism is perfect for our dojo. We offer a classical and educational based goju ryu program, with a heavy emphasis on balance and discipline. We set ourselves apart by providing martial arts the way it was originally meant to be taught.
Training in a classical method of karate (meaning empty hand) is a traditional practice that prepares its students for the physical, mental, and spiritual challenges of modern life. Our system of hard/soft style karate is especially suited to a practitioner seeking a balanced activity that emphasizes robust physical conditioning as well as cultivating inner vitality.
Martial Arts instruction has long been recognized for its ability to create "A" students. Feedback from parents everywhere indicates that there are an extraordinary number of cases where children have improved academically - in many cases quite dramatically. What is it about the Martial Arts that can cause such positive transformations?
The same dojo education that instils awareness, respect, self-control, street-proofing, and strong abilities within children also exists for adults; it is just as necessary for women and men of any age, occupation, and walk of life to cultivate themselves through a wellness practice such as the martial arts.
Okinawa is a string of islands that lie between China and Japan and has been a common battle field for both its neighbors for many centuries. The Okinawan weapons are an integral part of Okinawan Martial Arts. In 1477 all weapons in Okinawa were banned and confiscated. This political move directly led to the development of two different fighting systems.
