Eastside Boxing Club (ESB) is a not-for-profit gym located in the heart of Chinatown in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside that trains pro, amateur and recreational boxers. Dave Schuck founded the gym in 2012 after the closure of the Astoria Boxing Club where he was the head coach. In the beginning, ESB was faced with the financial struggles of finding a new space, purchasing equipment and having the capital to run a successful community gym.
Our beginner boxing class is perfect for beginners with little to no experience. Classes usually consists of basic boxing technique, warm up, cardio, bag drills, pad work and run 45 minutes long. We have city street parking just outside the gym, otherwise there are parking lots at the end of Keefer block and one at the end of Georgia.
Vancouver Food Runners's mission is to respond to the unfortunate disconnect between the fact that over 40% of all food produced is wasted or lost, while one in nine households in British Columbia are food insecure. They believe good food belongs to people, not landfills!
With their team of volunteers, VFR prevents perfectly good food from entering the waste stream - where it will negatively harm our environment - and instead redirect it to nonprofits in Vancouver that work with the most vulnerable members of our community. Our original goal for 2020 was to collect and distribute 14,000 pounds of surplus food.

Eastside Boxing runs a free after school boxing program 3 times a week. Volunteer coaches and other ESB boxer mentors facilitate this program. ESB works to help introduce youth participants to exercise and a variety of life skills through mentorship and relationship building. Post workout snacks provided by Body Energy Club.
At Eastside Boxing Club, we offer a variety of free classes for the residents of the Downtown Eastside Community. These classes are funded by our community partners and generous donors, and often have free childminding and food. Who: The target population of the program is women and in particular mothers that live in the DTES neighbourhood.

This place has been a game-changer for me. I've been coming here for a few months now, and it's been constantly fun since day one. The coaches are all really well-versed in their craft, and will offer solid guidance to improve your technique and push you in the right direction. And most importantly, they're all a really friendly bunch, and play good music during class! If you want to learn to box and have fun along the way, this is the place to be.

A great gym and great community. Don't come in here with any tough guy attitude and think it will flying. The Beginner's and intermediate classes are great for people who want to box casually, learn the basics, or just get in shape while working out with a bunch of friendly people. You can also step it up harder classes and start sparring, and maybe talk to the coaches if you want to take it more seriously.

Looked around for a gym to take my son to, to learn to box. First impression was great. Welcomed him right into the gym. He's started the beginner classes and is planning on working his way to the fighter training. The coaches are really encouraging and safety oriented when I ask questions about my son progressing in to competitive fighting. The fact that the fees I pay contribute to the clubs charitable work is a bonus. My son enjoys the coaches, and the get more out of him, then any soccer coach ever could.

Fantastic gym! Great facilities, they always keep it fresh and clean and the staff are friendly and welcoming. They do a lot of great work in the community for at a risk youth and they offer free self defense classes for people in the community who most need it. Most importantly this is a real boxing gym where you can really learn to fight. It's really everything a boxing gym should be. The more time i spend here the more i like it! Great job guys.
