Merritt Funeral Home was first established in 1921 when Ernest Merritt bought the Hick's Funeral Home. Originally established in the mid 1800's under other names, including Snider and W. W. Camp. After a fire in 1926, Ernest moved his business from downtown Smithville to the present location. Ernest continued to operate the funeral home until Clarence Merritt purchased it in 1944.
Planning your funeral can relieve the family of making immediate arrangements at the time of need, and it can give you peace of mind in knowing that your choice for funeral services has been decided. You are welcome to meet with the funeral director to assist you in making your plans. You can plan for your funeral without prepaying.
We will also help you notify the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Canada Old Age Security (OAS) to assist with those benefits. We will also need pertinent information and documents required to notify Canada Old Age Security (OAS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) that the death has occurred. On Behalf of the Estate, we prepare applications for applicable benefits through Canada Pension Plan (CPP), if the deceased was eligible.
Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may wish to have a traditional funeral service, or a memorial service. Decisions need to be made about the location of the funeral, the choice of casket or urn and who the pallbearers should be.
