At West Coast Family Law, our goal is to help you find efficient and practical solutions. Elise acts for clients using third party assisted production techniques to create their family. Karen acts for adoptive parents. We both help clients to negotiate marriage or co-habitation agreements, or navigate through the process of a separation or family-related dispute.
Whatever your circumstances, we will help you find resolutions, tailored to your specific circumstances, and designed to keep you out of court, if possible. Our goal is to help you and those you love, move on, in peace. Elise's services: include surrogacy agreements, donor agreements, parental declarations, separation agreements, divorces, asset division, parenting agreements, pre-nuptial or co-habitation agreements and mediation.

I help families transition through their most challenging times compassionately, respectfully and efficiently. My experience offers clients solutions that are best suited to the needs of their family. I had lived in Europe for over 10 years where I traveled extensively with my family, and became familiar with various cultures and languages, including German.
Feel like they've been heard so they can move beyond the emotional minefield to achieve a future-oriented agreement. Make decisions from a child focused and highest interest-based values rather than negative family dynamics. In the Collaborative Family Process, you will be encouraged to act out of mutual respect, not anger or spite.
Wills (and Codicils): A will appoints executors who must follow your directions for managing and distributing your estate. Your executors must meet the requirements of BC and Canadian law, including probate applications and fees, and taxes. Your will sets out how you want the assets of your estate distributed among your chosen beneficiaries.
One of the best ways of protecting the one you love is by drafting a marriage or co-habitation agreement before you move in together. Consider it an "agreement for lovers". Like taking an umbrella to prepare for a rainy day, the time taken to draft an agreement reduces or eliminates future problems.
As Intended Parent(s), whether domestic or international, your concerns start from the beginning of your journey including budgeting for the process and understanding the legal and procedural steps that are required along the way. As experienced professionals, we will support you with a hands-on approach, to ensure that you obtain a fair and enforceable agreement, to the extent permitted by the law.
