Oakville Centre for Cognitive Therapy (OCCT) was founded by Dr. Stephen Swallow in 1994. Dr. Swallow began renting a small suite in the Trafalgar Professional Centre at 1235 Trafalgar Road. In the following years Dr. Swallow established himself within Oakville and surrounding areas. In 2005 Dr. Swallow moved OCCT into a four-office suite within the same building.
Psychological services are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health benefit plans provide reimbursement for psychological services. Additionally, costs for psychological services that have not been reimbursed by an extended health benefit plan are eligible to claim for tax deductions as medical expenses on your personal income tax filing.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a rigorously researched evidence-based psychological treatment. CBT is based on the theory that thoughts, mood, and behaviours are all related. In therapy you will learn how to identify and reframe inaccurate and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to emotional difficulties and possible problematic behaviours.
Assessment is critical to: (a) clarify the nature and severity of your presenting concerns, and (b) to facilitate the creation of an individualized evidence-based treatment plan. Our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) services involve the creation of an individualized treatment plan that incorporates evidence-based strategies to help you overcome your difficulties and achieve your goals.
