Services
Dr. Kirby Lam graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2002. He practiced in Detroit and Windsor for four years and has been practicing in Kingston since 2006. Dr. Lam has been awarded for excellence in contact lens care and has also received an award from the United States Department of Health and Human Services for Preventative Health Care Initiatives.
Commonly called colour blindness is a lack of ability to distinguish certain colours. The most common form is the inability to distinguish shades of red and green and is more commonly seen in males. Also called light sensitivity is a condition that can have many underlying causes and can be prompted by many medications.
Below is a list of questions that we are often asked about vision care and eyewear issues of concern to our clients. If you have a question that you would like to ask us, please feel free to contact us. You should bring any eye wear that you are currently using - contacts, glasses and sunglasses - as well as any medications that you take and your health card.
Put on a pair of sunglasses and you are ready to face the world! No matter how great you look, the main job of your sunglasses is to protect your eyes from UV damage caused by the sun. The size of frame, shape of frame and what you will be wearing the glasses for - all contribute to how happy you will be with your new eyeglasses.
We will be happy to mail them to you or you can pick them up at our office. One of our staff members will call you to confirm your order. We accept orders from both patients and non-patients. If you are not currently a patient at our office, we will need to get your prescription information from you or schedule an appointment to determine the correct lenses for your vision needs.

My first time getting glasses so Dr Lam gave me a prescription which I filled at another location, bought the glasses and wore them for distance and reading because Lam told me progressives would be helpful. After several months I find out my prescription was not for progressives at all! Just distance. What?! Why not? I tell Dr Lam that I have glasses with the wrong prescription that I purchased out of pocket because of his error! He can’t help me or give me new glasses for free, he says. The prescription I was given for my daughter's glasses was incomplete so I am not able to purchase glasses online and my daughter doesn't like any glasses they have in the store. When I called to enquire about the prescription, I was told that they will do the measurements but I have to pay $50.
I find it very ignorant. Doesn't OHIP pay for the exam and isn't the full prescription part of the exam. If not, why wasn't I informed at the appointment when I was given the prescription. I've been with Visionary for 7 or 8 years, and have been very pleased with the care and service I receive there.
Louis Blanchette is my optometrist; he is very friendly, responsive and thorough. With glaucoma in my family history, he has been very attentive to following that aspect of my eyecare, as well as monitoring floaters that have appeared recently. In addition, I truly enjoy the manner in which he conducts my vision test, and feel confidence in the outcome.

I have gone to Visionary Eyecare for a number of years now. I have found from the start the entire staff are extremely efficient and really do show honest care for all patients.

I made the visit to Visionary Eyecare about two years ago for my first ever eye exam. I didn't want to admit the fact that I was getting older and might have needed some spectacles... turns out I did need some and sadly I'm old(ish). The staff were very welcoming and friendly with a great sense of humor. Each and every person I spoke with had the knowledge and answered any questions I had at the time. I have now been back a couple times and purchased a few pairs of glasses since my first visit.

The staff working at the reception area are friendly and helpful - from calling to book and appointment through paying for the service, they made the process simple.

Dr. Lam and the entire team make seeing the eye doctor a pleasant experience. The staff is fantastic - very welcoming and professional. The fitting team is so patient and honest. They take the time to find what works best for you – including style and function. Dr. Lam’s examinations are very thorough.
