Services
At Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital, all of our patients and clients are treated with respect. We offer high quality medicine, surgery and patient care. Our philosophy encourages owners to be actively involved in their pets' medical care. We place a strong emphasis on preventative medicine in order to provide our patients with the best quality of life.
Nicole is our Office Manager and Registered Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Seneca college in 2009. Nicole is passionate about animal health and she is very happy with her career decision to be able to provide medical nursing care for our furry family members. She shares her home with Milo, a very hyper Yorkshire terrier who she adopted from her training program at Seneca and Febe, a very happy Bernese Mountain Dog.
Bring the carrier up 2-3 days before the appointment, and place it in an area of the house that is frequented by your pet. Spend some time playing with your pet around the carrier. Put some treats or food nearby or inside the carrier to encourage a positive experience while re-acquainting with the carrier.
Charlene Somer is the owner and veterinarian at Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital. She is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College and has been practicing small animal medicine in Toronto since 2004. Charlene is passionate about veterinary medicine, recognizing the significant bond between owners and their animal companions.
Shira Ben-Ari is a part-time veterinarian at Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital. We are very excited to have her join our team. Dr. Ben-Ari began her career in 2004 in Israel, working mainly with small animals. She is a former equestrian and always dreams about getting back into horseback riding.
She loves working with dogs and cats and when not busy working, she likes to spend time with her husband, three daughters and her cat "Tzoof" which she brought from Israel.Dr. Ben-Ari is looking forward to providing excellent and compassionate medical care to all of our special patients.

Only saw the vet once in person for the 7 months that i have taken my puppy there. At first I understood because of covid they didnt let anyone inside. But after all other places are at full capacity, they still didnt let me in. I asked the front desk lady who theyre letting inside once and she said only fully vaccinated people can go inside but i was never even asked if i was fully vaccinated. Only talked to the vet about 3 times on the phone and the rest of the times i was only in contact with front desk which made me feel like i couldnt even ask questions about my dog. It's now Aug 2021 and Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital has been taking care of Maya for over 2 years. Maya had to be euthanized at the clinic and the staff were very compassionate during the procedure. Thank you Dr. Somer, Dr. Ben-Ari and Jasleen for giving Maya the best care possible!
I went to this clinic for a 2nd opinion and met Dr. Somer. She felt Maya's tummy area, noticed a mass and recommended an ultra sound. The ultra sound confirmed Maya had to have her spleen removed before the growths rupture. Maya had the surgery at another location but thank goodness Dr. Somer identified the mass

Everyone at this veterinary clinic is wonderful. Last winter we lost our cat, Scaramouche. He died on our way to the clinic. Our whole family was devastated! Although it was Dr. Ben-Ari who saw us that evening, Dr. Somer called a few days to check on us and offer her sympathies. We also got a condolences card in the mail and found out they had donated to the U of Guelph vet research. They are amazing folks who are always available. I can’t believe the number of times we have called with concerns (when we got a new puppy) and they have been willing to help us! Thank you for being so caring!

Today was my first appointment with my new kitten (who is my first pet). I am still in awe at how wonderful the staff and doctors at Dufferin-Steeles Animal Hospital is. From their COVID-19 protocol to their phone manners, the professionalism demonstrated by client care representatives Anna and Jasleen are unmatched. Further, Dr. Somers made a lasting impression for a few reasons. First time visit to this animal hospital. Was so pleased with my experience. The staff made my baby feel safe, and took such good care of her during her visit. Dr. Somer and everyone at the clinic is fantastic!! I only started going recently but I've received the best care and more information about my cats health than the previous vet clinic I had been going to. Dr. Somer makes both the animals and their owners feel very comfortable thanks to her detailed explanations, compassion and calming nature.
