Emmanuel At Brighton Child Care Centre
Emmanuel at Brighton Child Care Centre was established in 1964 by members of the Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo and was originally known by Emmanuel Church Day Nursery. We currently have no religious affiliation. In the beginning, Emmanuel was run by volunteers who welcomed children into the program with varying abilities focusing on the strengths of each child, enabling them to reach their potential.

The volunteers eventually took courses in Early Childhood Education and expanded the enrollment. Several church members contributed to the success of Emmanuel over the years making furniture and toys, making quilts for each child to rest with, sitting on the Board of Directors, or helping in the kitchen.
Services
Experiences, activities, and events occur in carefully designed inclusive indoor and outdoor environments that foster children's well-being, learning and development, our goal is to support meaningful participation for every child. Learning is expressed through Pedagogical Documentation where educators observe, record and document the learning processes in collaboration with children and families.
Like many families, good food is central to daily life here at Emmanuel - from hot tea around the campfire to the yummy menus prepared by our kitchen staff. Each day, a nutritious snack is served in the morning and in the afternoon. Our main daily meal is served at lunchtime and is a happy, social event.
Our outdoor natural play spaces are an important part of our emergent curriculum. The educators and children enjoy exploring and making discoveries about the world in the environment that nature provides. Being in nature enhances all areas of a child's development as well as the health and well-being of both children and educators.
Our Staff are highly committed to Emmanuel at Brighton Child Care Centre - many staff have been part of our community for over fifteen years and two staff had celebrated thirty years of service. We strive for all of our full-time educators to obtain an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma and register with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
We offer a JK/SK program guided by Forest and Nature School Canada's (FNSC) constructivist emergent approach to learning. Forest and Nature School programs have been offered around the world since the 1950s. Most prevalent in Scandinavian Countries, however the approach is gaining international momentum supported by research.

My daughter started at age 2 at this centre in the Seedlings Room and is now in the Birch room (preschool). My daughter loves it there. The educators are fantastic. They really care a lot. I love how they go outside as much as possible. They have 5 different playgrounds around the school. I highly recommend getting on the wait list early and to tour the place. Lots of wood inside the classrooms and use of play-based learning. My daughter is starting at their forest school program in September part-time. It's just too bad that it's difficult to get in. Make sure you keep in contact with them.
