Northern Building Supply Ltd was established more than sixty years ago by Bert Thomas. He bought an old sawmill in the area and turned it into one of the city's most unique, privately owned lumber yards. During the post-World War II boom, Bert evolved into a young entrepreneur.
He bought other lumberyards and hauled lumber with his new business called "Northern Cartage" Today, the company is one of the largest, privately-held, single-location building supply outlets.The company is a family-owned business in every sense of the word. After Bert's passing in 2010, his three sons Alex, Gord, and John, now overlook the day-to-day operations.

I called to confirm they had the lumber I needed, they told me they had it in stock, I drove 30 min. to pick it up and turned out, they didn’t have it. When people call and ask if you have material, have your employees call the yard to make sure you have it. Or better yet, update your inventory system so it doesn’t show material in the computer that you don’t have in the yard. What a waste of my time.

First of all I just want to mention that my visits to the store were great experiences. In general the staff were really friendly and helpful. However there is this young man with glasses and a basketball cap who works at the front desk who was extremely condescending towards the other female customers in the store. I have a suspicion that he is the type to disrespect women in general from what I witnessed. Please keep an eye on him or you're going to loose a lot of customers.

Cafe' at Northern building supply.Here is a little gem tucked away were no one will find it. Unless you are buying construction supplies.
The food is home cooked and fair pricing
French toast comb $8.50 .Comes with smiles and thank you.
This is for workers and truck drivers and those in the know. Walk up the creaky stairs down the slanted hallway across the twisted floor to the red booths from the 1950's.Don't expect fancy but you get an honest meal fresh an fast.
Burgers ,breakfast ,Chinese dishes .
