Nestled on the main strip of Banff Avenue, just minutes from downtown, Ticino is one the oldest restaurants in Banff and one of the few that are locally-owned and family operated since 1979. Where does the name "Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant" come from?
Pronounced "TEECHEENO, " Ticino Restaurant is named after the Italian-speaking canton (what we refer to as a province or state in North America) which is called Ticino, and is located in southern Switzerland.Though this canton is in Switzerland, the language, architecture, cuisine and culture is influenced by the neighbouring country of Italy.

Since 1979, Erwin Widmer has been owner & host extraordinaire at Ticino. Born and raised in Zrich Switzerland, he immigrated to Canada in 1967. He and his wife chose to settle in Banff and raise their four children. Now, daughter Angela and her husband Louis-Pierre Hlie are injecting their youthful energy into the business, continuing the family tradition.
Head Chef Michael Samson is Swiss trained with over 20 years of experience in the Ticino kitchen. He and his team provide guests with quality, taste and presentation. Using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible, their talent flows through every dish. The Ticino kitchen cares about what goes on your plate; the proof is in every bite!
The wellbeing of our staff, guests & partners is our top priority. Without health, we have nothing. We are striving to implement all recommended measures provided by Alberta Health to ensure a safe dining experience. The following actions are currently in effect in our restaurant. We have hired an onsite cleaner to continuously clean and sanitize washrooms and all shared surfaces after use.
Established in 1974, Ticino Restaurant prides itself on being a family operation. Locally owned and operated, our management is shifting to the next generation of family. We employ locally, work with regional partners and enjoy working with others who share our slow food, small town values. Our partner, Wild Life Distillery, was established in 2017.

Amazing!!! The food was fantastic and the service was so friendly. Perfect little Italian restaurant and my compliments to the chef. The smoked duck gnocchi with the walnut sauce, I cannot explain how the flavour profile just explodes. So delicious, so much charm, definitely want to check this little gem out if your in Banff.

Had the Fondue here as they were offering a promotional 50% off and it seemed like a great excuse to go for Fondue! I had a great experience from start to finish starting with the communication when making my… reservation to paying up. I met/spoke with three different staff members, all provided great customer service.
The staff went out of their way to engage with us and get to know us which was important as we recently moved to Canmore a month ago. I also watched the staff walk around and engage with every person coming into the restaurant and it was clear they had regulars coming in and
