John gained an appreciation for the values and ideals of rural life in his early years while growing up in the Mount Forest area. In 2002, after completing an apprenticeship with Jerrett Funeral Homes in Toronto, he graduated from Humber College, earning his Funeral Director's Licence.
With a keen sense of learning, John served on the staff of Ogden Funeral Home in Toronto, England Funeral Home in Mount Forest and the Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener. After spending eight wonderful years in Seaforth as the owners of McGlynn Family Funeral Home, John and Sandy made the decision to pursue an opportunity to own and manage a larger and busier funeral home in Owen Sound.

Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may opt to have a traditional service, or as more and more people are doing, you can choose to have a non-traditional 'life celebration'. Decisions need to be made about the location of the funeral, the choice of casket or urn and who the pallbearers should be.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
Traditionally, a burial service involves a visitation, followed by a funeral service in a church, or other place of worship. The casket is typically present at both these events, and it is your decision on whether to have the casket open or not. You have the option of having the remains interred (earth burial), or it may be entombed in a crypt inside a mausoleum (above ground burial).

We extend the highest praise for the Staff of this Owen Sound family-run Funeral Home. They show great compassion and expertise from pre-booking a Funeral to carrying out the wishes of the Deceased and the bereaved Family. Each of the Staff is prepared to help in so many ways. Their caring is front and centre. They excel at understanding and providing direction in what is a very sensitive matter.

At a point in our lives when it seemed to be impossible to make a decision about anything at all, I can honestly say that the staff and especially Terry at Woods Funeral Home made this most difficult time to be a lot less stressful. The Van Wyck family will be forever grateful for your guidance, compassion and empathy during this journey. Our many, many thanks to you Terry for everything you did for us.

Our experience with this funeral home was extremely positive. From the planning, with Nathan, through to the funeral, the entire staff were very professional, patient and friendly. During our dealings with this funeral home, many things occurred that required them to make adjustments during the visitation and the funeral. We were extremely relieved with the flexibility and compassion that they demonstrated. With all we were experiencing at the time, the staff did their best to make sure they made this as stress free as possible. They worked very hard for us and for that we are thankful!

I could not imagine having my father's funeral anywhere but here. Nathan was so compassionate and involved with my father's funeral as my mother, brother and I were a bit lost on the entire situation. Everything you did for us is greatly appreciated. The playlist that you created for Bob was an epic closure and would have made him happy even though it was a bit unconventional for a funeral service. It goes to show that you truly care about making people comfortable during a time of loss and need.
