Duncan Allen Law (DAL) is a family law firm with offices in Nanaimo and Qualicum, BC. DAL was founded by Kara Duncan and Laura Allen, two UVIC alum who dreamt of working in a cooperative, modern law firm that focused on providing clients with an exceptional client experience. DAL subsequently acquired more like-minded lawyers and a crew of devoted support staff, each with their own unique abilities and interests.
Duncan Allen is committed to transparency when it comes to billing clients. Due to the unpredictable path that litigation can often take, it can be impossible to provide an exact estimate of the overall costs. However, we strive to provide a reasonable estimate of the cost of each step in the litigation, contrast that with other options available to you, and provide itemized invoices that show exactly where your money is going.
We understand that every situation is unique, and that family conflict or breakdown can comprise of some of the most stressful events that a person can experience in life. For this reason, the lawyers at Duncan Allen Law are committed to investing time in understanding each family dynamic through the course of your professional relationship with them in order to offer a service that is tailor-made for you.
Family agreements constitute marriage, cohabitation, and separation agreements. All three are legal contracts that set out a couple's intentions for during and/or after their relationship. Laura Allen is one of the founding lawyers of Duncan Allen Law LLP as well as an accredited family law mediator. She is passionate about helping her clients find fair, practical solutions when their family is restructuring to avoid the emotional and financial toll of going to court.

Terrible lawyer who has no genuine care for her clients just about lining her pockets. She encourages her clients to spend thousands of dollars in sending pointless emails to opposing council that ultimately result in nothing but wasted money for her client. She plays dirty, is willing to cross the moral and ethical standard most lawyers abide by. Will willingly aid her client in alienating their ex spouse from the children. Even when hard evidence is shown to her she still advises her clients to carry on. Issues that could of been easily solved that could of spared the children from a ton of trauma

I was extremely lucky to end up having Joey as my lawyer and Kathryn as her partner working on my case. I was in a very difficult situation and had multiple questions all the time. These two were always available when I needed them and we're never impatient with me during very hard times which is extraordinarily hard to find in any type of buisness. I self-represented myself in my divorce trial and I am very happy with the orders that were pronounced. I used Laura’s unbundled package for this trial. She was so amazing, she kept politely guiding me to stay focused on the issues and the evidence, hence making the best of my visits to her. She very honestly told me what I could do myself, knowing my abilities, and what I should let her do, to make the best use of my money. I learnt to trust her fully as she truly was working in the best interest for me.

I first met Kara in 2012 where she became my lawyer. Right from the start she always made me feel like I was important and my case mattered to her. She has always been fair and honest. In court she was always very professional. Money became a issues and I couldn't afford a lawyer as I am not on legal aide. Not once has Kara said no she wouldn't help me out. There aren't too many people in this world who do what Kara and Laura do for people. It is inspiring to see the volunteer work they do to help those in need. I hired Kara Duncan when I was denied parental access 07/01/2013 & the victim of unfounded allegations 07/02/2013 (2013-16859) - proven false 07/09/2013. Kara wrote a letter saying I was to have regular visits resumed 07/10/2013, this never happened. Instead, Kara took my money and quit. Instead of having my daughters returned I have been the… victim of legal harrasment and death threats. Kara had a job to do, she took the money and scrammed instead. I have court orders ED67644 from Aug & Oct 2013, and Aug 2015, ignored. Provincial enforcable by peace officer court orders PF66295
