Your eye health needs will most likely change as you get older, so your optometrist may recommend more frequent eye exams once you reach a certain age. Many patients think that eye exams just determine whether you need glasses or whether your prescription has changed.
Kids rely on their eyes to hit basic developmental milestones like walking, talking, and even socialization. Your kids may not realize they have a vision issue, which makes children's eye exams particularly important. Our children's eye exams include a variety of tests and steps to determine what your child sees and how well they see it.
The best way to detect and mitigate diabetes-related eye damage is through highly-detailed eye exams at least once a year. Diabetes puts your eyes at risk of diabetic eye disease, which can cause permanent vision loss. A diabetic eye exam offers more in-depth testing and diagnostics than a standard eye examination.
MDO Opticians carries a range of contact lenses so you can see clearly, even if you're not "feeling" glasses some days. Our team of eyewear experts have the skill and experience to focus on the details when helping you find the ideal pair of contacts. We'll start by making sure you don't have any conditions that might make you a poor candidate for contact lenses.
Myopia, or nearsightedness, happens when the eye is too long, making distant objects look fuzzy. By the time they get to adulthood, distance vision might be bad enough that a super strong prescription will be needed to correct it. Through a process called myopia control, we can slow down myopia progression, which helps your child hang on to some of the distance vision they have now.

I went in with a pair of glasses I purchased from another eye clinic. They were never worn by me, because as it turns out, they had the WRONG prescription in them! Doug sensed my unhappiness and came over to me. He chatted with me, and when he saw the glasses I brought in, he was appalled. Not only were they the wrong prescription, but they… were also inferior, ill fitting, and entirely the wrong shape for my face. Doug saved the day by setting up an immediate appointment with his extraordinary optometrist, Dr, Jada Hong. He then made my day even better by giving me a beautiful new frame

What an amazing experience! My husband hasn’t looked for glasses for a long time and isn’t a fan if the big frames. We were greeted and felt welcome. No aggressive sales techniques and they listened to what he wanted. They even took a picture on the iPad to help us decide between the final two. They worked within our price range and what we felt comfortable with. He knew his product and made great recommendations instead of my husband having to try dozens of frames! Thank you. Now I’m thinking I might need new glasses .. soonish... 🤓

MDO has hands down the best staff I have ever encountered. Everyone, from Marcie, to the doctors to the glasses experts, is incredible. I recently got a pair of glasses from them which I only realized after… wearing them for a few days that they were becoming uncomfortable. I called MDO and Doug(the owner) had no problems fixing or replacing them if we couldn’t make them work. It ended up that we found a new pair, and he gladly exchanged them, at no extra cost to me. I have never had such a pleasant experience. They are outstanding!

Love love love MDO! Best place to get glasses! My mom struggled with poorly fitted, crooked glasses for way too long until I took her to MDO! They are the only place who found glasses she likes AND fit her… face. Doug took the time to ask my super conservative mom about her daily routine and style to make sure he found the perfect fit. My mom now has two new pairs of specs (regular and sunnies) and she is so happy she can see again! The lens quality is superb, especially for people like my mom who have aging eyes with special needs. See attached picture for the before and after looks. Seriously

I have been dealing with Doug, Deb and Heather for the last couple of months. I consider myself to have extremely sensitive eyes and I just got my first progressives and a greenish trendy frame that I did not like after the first week of wearing them; the frame was just not me. There was an issue with the progressives as well and not only were these wonderful people very concerned about the fact that I was not so happy with my frames, they were also very concerned that I was having issues on the computer portion of the lens. They said that because of my sensitivity, I should go with a more advanced

3 Visits, 2 remakes of glasses I had to pay for and still could not see well. Poor distance vision, double vision headaches and more. Went and had my eyes re-examined at Sturgeon Vision Centre, TOTALLY different prescription, but back a lot closer to the original prescription I had before I moved to St Albert. I can now see 20/20 again.

I booked an appointment for a contact lens fitting and was quoted $40 on the phone. When I arrived to my appointment, the receptionist informed me that they could not give me contact lenses unless I had an eye exam as well. But, I had just had an eye exam one month ago at a different optometrist, which I did bring the prescription along with me. The receptionist said they needed my file faxed over from where I had my eyes tested, but had no luck in receiving it.

Dear Edmonton, St. Albert and surrounding areas - MDO is worth the trip to get funky, unique, and comfortable eye wear.
The staff do an excellent job of greeting you and personally taking the time to fit YOU for YOUR glasses, making sure that you get the product best suited to your lifestyle. They really took the time to make sure I was getting the right frame for me, which is really important considering the fact that they are on my face all day long. I've consistently gotten compliments every time I wear one of my (two!) MDO frames, and every time I do I recommend people head to the shop
