Since 2013, Rath Bicycle has grown; through referrals and word of mouth, we've gone from a basement workshop in south-west Calgary, to getting referred by some of the largest bike shops in the city as a subject matter expert for vintage bicycle restoration.
What started out as an idea to save a few unwanted bikes, has developed into a deep passion, not only to reduce our carbon footprint, but revive beautiful design and history of an essential mode of transport.One of our favorite parts of running the shop is the amazing customers and community we get to develop relationships with and relish the opportunity to serve!

From changing tires, derailleur adjustments, hanger alignments, and bottom bracket rebuilds, wheel builds we have done it all. Our UBI certification is the best a mechanic can get in North America. We price ourselves with competitive shop/material rates that have been bench-marked across our region!

Tom and Ruth (owners) are so, so lovely, knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. My partner and I felt totally at ease, and comfortable asking questions without feeling like dummies. They patiently explained the work they’d done to our bikes and why (we had two box rebuilds and some parts replaced), and gave use some great tips for future improvements should we wish.
They also gave us some fun recommendations since we’re new to Calgary! Thanks guys, you’re our new go-to shop!

I have the unfortunate incident of experiencing a popped tube recently. I didn't have a spare on me and was no where near home, luckily I was within walking distance of Rath Bicycle. They managed to swap out my tube and fill both my tires and gave me tips on bike maintenance. They were incredibly friendly and the service was top notch. I am definitely adding Rath to the list of shops I will go to if i need to get any work done in my bike in the future.

As a new customer to Rath, I was blown away with the exceptional service and knowledge. This family business was very friendly, answered all of my questions (which was a lot) and very fairly priced. Would definitely recommend to anyone with an older more vintage bicycle and will be returning in the future.

Tom did a great job rebuilding my wheel (and got it done in 2 days during busy season right before the May long weekend). I have a Nexus 3 internal gear system, and he took the time take the entire thing apart to make sure it was all in good condition. My bike is 10 years old, that was the first time I've ever taken it back into a bike shop, and $250 later I'm riding it out like its brand new. Thanks for the great work Tom!

I was in Calgary for just a short time in late 2020 and wanted to commute on my bike. I just needed air in my tires and was so impressed by the kindness of Rath Bicycle. After going back and forth with Lori on email, Tom met me at my rental unit with a tire pump, got me going, and refused to let me pay for his services, saying that "air is free". That was a very nice gesture from a nice local family run business. Next time I am in need of a tune up or new bike, I will be in touch with Rath Bicycle.

I purchased an older road bike off Kijiji and was looking for a shop that could do a tune up in a short period of time as I wanted to get riding ASAP. I looked at other shops in Calgary and the wait was about 3-4 weeks!
I am so happy I stumbled across their page, I dropped it off for a full service/tune up on Friday and got it back Sunday!!! Amazing service, very thorough with what they do and they are so reasonably priced, not to mention they do drop offs and pick ups in East Village, Inglewood, and Ramsay which was

Great customer service! It was easy to communicate with Lori and Tom from Rath Bicycle. I ordered a bike on Saturday night (even outside their work hours) and got it delivered to our front door the very next day - all built, no box and packaging to worry about, to test ride, to purchase, and to be given quick tutorials on. Appreciate their suggestion to register our bike as well. Glad to support a local Calgary business specially during these uncertain times! Best of luck on the move to a new storefront location to Rath Bicycle! :)

I stumbled upon this shop on a summer stroll and Lori offered a test ride and I absolutely fell in love with their bikes. I couldn’t stop thinking about them and ended up going back to purchase the new bike. The bike I purchased was adorable and functional with comfy seats, 7 gears, and it came with a light and a bell. They also have other accessory you could purchase. Lori was very professional, helpful, kind, and friendly both times! Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a new bike.

Lori and Tom are the best!!! I have not bought a bike from them (yet)...but have got to know them from East Village Junction.
They are so warm, honest and kind. They are the type of people that build community and entrepreneurs that contribute and add to Calgary.
And they have the cutest bikes that I have my eyes on. Great cruisers at a reasonable price. They also sell great accessories to go with you bike.
You can also rent bikes for various lengths of times at a very reasonable rates.
I really hope they set up a permanent shop in East Village or nearby.

My husband and I were staying in East Village and we stumbled across Rath Bicycle on a Friday afternoon while browsing through the pop up shops. We were immediately drawn to Laurie and her amazing customer service. She was very understanding of our time constraints and provided us with a map and key spots to visit while we were riding bikes along the Bow River. Unfortunately, 15 minutes after we left on our bikes, we were stuck in a terrential downpour. We ended up stranded at a restaurant until we decided to brave the rain and return the bikes.
