A simple word but full of meaning. Whether in a marriage or a common-law relationship, you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. No one expects a relationship to end when first starting out. Whether you are common-law or married, the end of a relationship is emotionally difficult and dealing with the legal fallout can be daunting and confusing.
Add in issues like custody, guardianship and access with regard to children of a marriage, or a common-law relationship and emotions can, and often do, run high. In some cases, issues of property division, spousal support and child maintenance make achieving resolution even more challenging.

Kelly Harvey Russ is a lawyer who has restricted his legal practice to Family and Child Protection matters for the past 17 years. BC Family Law may be on the brink of fundamental legislative change as a result of the White Paper on Family Relations Act Reform. The contents of this website may change once the legislative change with regard to the Family Relations Act comes into force. Our lawyers concentrate solely on family law matters.
There are a number of different approaches to resolving a family law dispute outside of the court process, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and the collaborative law process. The key to the success of an alternative process to litigation is full and frank disclosure of financial information by all parties at the outset.
If the safety and well-being of a child becomes compromised the primary piece of legislation to ensure the child's safety and well-being are maintained is the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA). Parents have a fundamental common law right entitling them, as opposed to the state, to custody of their child unless the safety and protection of the child requires removal from the family.
Kelly Russ is a Vancouver Child Maintenance Lawyer that deals with obtaining intinal child maintenance Orders; variation of child maintenance Orders; dealing with Family Maintenance Enforcement Program, including commital hearings; cancelling child maintenance Orders; child maintenance Orders for children over 19 years old.

Where do I start, Kelly is a rock star.
The world of family litigation is one of disappointment. Be Reasonable, Be Responsible, and save yourself a boatload of Money by hiring Kelly.
Litigation is very expensive, I spent 45k before I met Kelly, Taking on a new case requires review, and time. Kelly has always been fair with his billing, and seeks a clients authorization every step of the way. He made me feel comfortable, advised me of litigation pitfalls and was looking out for my families best interest through the entire process. Kelly also did a diligent job reviewing the history of the case

Do not use this lawyer! At first I was impressed with Kelly because he called me and spent 30min on the phone getting details of my case when it seems like every other lawyer charges for that. He asked me to gather some documents for my case and then met me at a local coffee shop to collect them. He said he would review them and get back to me with a strategy.
He never did. For 2 weeks I called and emailed, and he didn't reply. Finally I got a hold of him by blocking my number before calling him, even then he hedged and said he hadn't been avoiding me... and wouldn't' be clear on when I could

Do not use this lawyer! He basically took our retainer and used it all up and basically did nothing. He never really returned emails or calls and bailed on my wife and I one day before going to court when WE called him. Not even sure if he is a real lawyer and never met him in person even though we requested to meet him in person and he said he would call us back. Big surprise, he didn't call. This is thievery!

This so-called family mediator is aggressive and seems to have no interest in actual mediation and would rather fight. He is vexatious and likes to pull the race card. He does not bother to prepare and will aggressively argue non issues, which makes his clients look like fools. He is quick to argue and slow to compromise. He DOES NOT have the child's best interest in mind and seems to have his own agenda.
