SKC Engineering was founded by Stephen Siu in 1997 with a simple mission - to provide exceptional welding & manufacturing consulting. For over ten years the company operated with a single employee, until Mathew Smith joined in 2008. With the combination of Mathew's leadership & vision and Steve's deep knowledge of the welding industry the company expanded rapidly and was eventually sold to Applus+ Canada in 2015.
SKC's main focus and drive is in the field of Welding Engineering and we recognized by industry as leaders in this discipline. We have considerable expertise in the design of welded joints and the development of welding procedures for both mechanical and structural applications in Steel, Aluminum and other Non-ferrous alloys.
We have implemented Engineers & Geoscientists BC Organization Quality Management (OQM) system and are OQM certified. Download a copy of our OQM certificate here. Our materials testing lab is certified to CSA W178.1 and are laboratory personnel are certified in accordance with the requirements of CSA W178.2.
We have extensive experience working with Canadian Armed forces, especially with the refit & repairs of naval vessels. We have experience working with UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) welding standards. We have developed welding procedures & repair instructions for critical applications and carried out Engineering Critical Assessments and fitness for service calculations when required.
SKC developed a series of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) for an oil refinery in accordance with the requirements of ASME section IX. As part of Canada's national ship building strategy we developed a series of welding procedures for use in multiple shipyards according to the rules for a number of different classification societies including DNV-GL, Lloyds & ABS.
