Transitions Counselling Centre
Our mission statement is "Helping people through change". That change can mean different things, but basically it means that people look at counselling to possibly change something in their lives like: processing trauma or loss; resolve to faltering relationships; or any other issue that has blocked them from experiencing their life to the fullest or one that has challenged their ability to cope.

Working with First Responders, it is especially important to gain awareness of their mental health, as they have to deal with traumatic experiences as part of their career, plus the day-to-day stresses of life that we all deal with. This can compromise their ability to cope in significant ways.
Services
I am a lifelong resident of Kelowna and have seen it mature into the city it is today. Just as we change with age, Kelowna has as well. In 2006, I chose for early retirement from my previous career as a senior officer in the Kelowna Fire Department and went back to school to get a diploma in Applied Psychology and Counselling at Kelowna College of Professional Counselling, graduating in 2008.
First Responders have unique careers in that they not only cope with the stressors the rest of us have but they also have to deal with others trauma as well. This can stretch their ability to cope because stress is cumulative. They can also put their lives in danger as a result of their occupation, sometimes resulting in PTSD.
Our whole being (physical, emotional and mental) is constantly striving to be in balance or equilibrium as shown above. When we experience a stressful event, like a traumatic event or loss, it takes us out of balance, which causes our stress level to increase in direct correlation to the significance of the stressful event.
