Marilyn's first encounter with goldsmithing was as a teenager in a friend's dusty basement workshop, it was then that she knew the jewellery world was right for her. In the late 70's the jewellery industry was booming, however, trying to make it as a young woman in a male dominant industry would be a challenge.
Working two jobs and training herself in the evening, Marilyn honed her goldsmithing skills, and in 1983 she incorporated Marigold Jewellery. As her business grew from repair work to custom jewellery Marilyn was able to explore her talent for design, and in 1988 won her first national design competition.
