Services
Karl Heinz Wetzlaugk and Herta Schmidt immigrated from Germany to Canada shortly after World War II. They were introduced to one another by Karl's mother and started Karl's Body Shop in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. They moved south in 1968 when Modern Auto Body Ltd. first opened in Edmonton. Karl and Herta's son Dean showed interest in the shop at a very young age.
Each of our specialists focuses on just one of these brands and learns everything there is to know. So whatever you drive, the technician working on your vehicle knows it like the back of their hand. We are fans of the brands we work with. It's our job to preserve them, not just repair them. We have hands-on experience with exotic and hybrid vehicles.
We continue our long tradition of factory certification in luxury brands representing the latest technologies. As a Tesla Approved Body Shop in Edmonton and serving all of Northern Alberta, our technicians have been factory trained and our shop equipped with the specialized tools necessary to repair these unique vehicles.

We are very lucky to have such a good body shop in this city. I’ve dealt with them a few times now for my BMW and always have a great experience. The office staff couldn’t be nicer and they’re very good at their job. Technicians in the back always got my car looking new again and great to deal with.

HUGE thank you to Modern for fixing my vehicle after an unexpected accident. Jason was able to get me a quote very quickly after using their handy app on their website. My Macan was unfortunately rear-ended in mid-October when I yielded at 111 Ave going onto 61 St in Edmonton by a Hyundai Sante Fe.
After exactly 28 days, the great people at Modern Autobody got my Macan back to me! Their service and communication was the best that I've ever experienced. So glad I brought her there rather than the ones that were suggested by the insurance company.

I have brought my BMW's to this body shop for the last few mishaps. I had a high-end BMW with matte black paint that was damaged in a "side swipe" vehicle collision. I've reviewed this place before but I can't find my review so I am writing it again. Dealing with Modern Auto Body was worse than experiencing the accident that led me there in the first place which should give you an indication of how terrible it must've been and it was a pretty bad accident. 5 years ago, my car (brand new BMW) should've been written off but they estimated the repair low so they can get the work from insurance, then inflated the costs later to nearly double which would have qualified the vehicle to be written off had they given that quote initially. I've previously had a couple of vehicles repaired here (minor hit and run damage), and service here was 5 star! This time, not so much! I recently took my current vehicle here for an estimate for front bumper repairs, and after slightly more than one week, my insurance company finally received Modern's estimate. A week has since passed, and still no call from Modern regarding an appointment for repairs. I highly suspect this place is under new management, since service has certainly deteriorated over my past experiences!

We took our MB GLK 350 there to get repaired from being rear ended. The StateFarm estimate said that the rear bumper cover needed to be replaced. Upon picking up the car I went underneath to check and see if had been replaced or just refinished. To my surprise it was just refinished. When I asked to see the parts invoice for my repairs they refused to show me. They denied that it was just refinished until I should them the broken clips underneath. Then they said they were red faced and that they would fix it buy getting a new rear cover. We would bring the car back so they could swap the cover

My girlfriend has a nice car. It isn't a Benz, a BMW, or a Range Rover. But pulling into Modern Auto Body we were feeling pretty confident because her car was nicer than all the "Kijiji specials" they had on display out front. Except hers wasn't a Benz.
We asked for an estimate. The polite secretary asked if we had an appointment. Um, no. This is a body shop in rigpig Edmonton, not a Ritz Carlton. When she asked what kind of car we had (Hyundai Genesis) she looked at us and said "Oh, we only do upscale cars here."
