Computer vision syndrome is a transient condition that is caused by long uninterrupted periods of focusing on a computer screen. The symptoms include blurred vision, headaches, fatigue, eye strain, neck pains, eye redness, dry eyes, double vision and trouble focusing the eyes. Every 20 minutes focus on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
A retinal detachment is a medical EMERGENCY in which the retina peels off from the underlying tissue. Left untreated, it could lead to blindness. This is more common in people with high myopia (near sightedness - prescriptions higher than -5.00). These patients should make sure to get a YEARLY DILATED EYE EXAM to make sure there are no retinal holes or tears that may lead to a detachment.
Amblyopia is when an eye has poor vision due to lack of development during childhood. This occurs because of decreased stimulation to the visual pathway of the eyes from: strabismus (turned eye), cataracts or drooping eyelids during infancy, uncorrected high prescriptions or unequal prescriptions between the two eyes that are left uncorrected.
