We have provided drivers' training since 1970, Derek Brown's Academy of Driving has grown from a 1 car driver training school to a true driving academy with an entire fleet of 15 cars and 6 trucks. We provide courses for beginner drivers, brush up courses for experienced drivers, trucking courses, winter driving courses, seniors' driving courses, and more.
Derek Brown's Academy of Driving offers superior classroom and in-vehicle instruction at reduced prices. We have courses for beginning drivers who want to get their class 5 license. We offer a course for defensive driving and demerit reduction. We have a large and busy truck driving school with truck training courses for drivers wishing to start a new career as a truck driver.
This basic driving course will prepare you for your Class 5 road test. It includes fifteen hours of classroom time and ten hours of driving time. Classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays in the office from 10:00am until 3:30pm. They are split into three 5 hour sessions. Driving time consists of five 2 hour lessons that can be booked anytime Monday to Saturday between 8:00am and 8:00pm.
Remove three demerits from your record and/or take your defensive driving knowledge to the next level simply by taking this course. Our defensive driving course/demerit reduction course is conveniently held in on-premises in our Calgary driving school's classrooms on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
These lessons are for people who just want to refresh their driving. One brush up lesson consists of two hours of driving in a school vehicle with a skilled instructor. This refresher course consists of fifteen hours of classroom instruction and six hours of driving with an experienced instructor. I was 15 studying toward my class 5 license with Derek Browns and both instructors I had were excellent. Dr.Raad was able to answer every question I had without hesitation, and my in vehicle instructor Robert was extremely nice and fun to talk to. I passed my drivers test with not demerits, without some of his tips I’m sure that would’ve never happened. Overall my experience with Derek Browns was excellent and I would recommend to anyone who wants to expand their driving skills.

I had an overall good experience at Derek Brown's Academy of Driving, I believe that there were great parts of my education as well as parts where there could be improvement. I would've appreciated if there was an option to do the in class portion online, but I understand that this was taken away after the peak of the pandemic. Nonetheless, my instructor Hassan was great to have. He had a great sense of humour, provided snacks, and gave practical guidance to all students. Qusay is an incredible instructor. Having not driven much at all before my lessons I was very nervous, but with his calm demeanor and thorough instructions I was able to get the hang of it much faster than anticipated. He's also a very funny and interesting person to talk to, and I really enjoyed our conversations with the added bonus that it put me at ease. Quasay is an amazing instructor. He is very patient with a confused and nervous student. He has a great way of teaching that makes so much sense and he teaches real world skills. With what he taught, I feel prepared to drive in any condition. The classes aren't awkward silence either, they are filled with fun conversation along with the lessons. My driving instructor was Qusay Majeed. He was very patient and very helpful in teaching the rules of the road during my driving lessons. He genuinely cares about his students and does his best to ensure they are the safest driver they can be by giving plenty of tips. Overall, I would highly recommend this driving school to anyone wanting to learn how to drive.

This driving school was amazing! My road instructor, which was Qusay Majeed, was the best instructor their could be. He was very consistent with reminding me on my little mistakes, and made me feel comfortable with driving, since I was scared. He has many different methods to teaching you if you dont understand a certain way. I came across Derek Brown’s school via Google reviews when I was looking for a driving instructor. Robert stood out to me because he has so many wonderful reviews from “older”, anxious drivers like myself! I was in the mindset where it was so hard to believe I would ever get my license.
I cannot rave enough about Robert. He is so thorough and provides great tips, patient instructions, and wonderful feedback. I ended up having two driving instructors here. I must say I was extremely satisfied with the experience and teachings both of them provided. Robert, is a pleasant man who gave me excellent instruction on everything I needed to know to ace the test, while Qusay provided greatly appreciated teaching on what it can be like to drive in the real world. I totally recommend Derek Brown for anyone interested in taking driving lessons. The Administrative staff are so helpful and professional, really loved how they would go the extra mule to meet your needs.

In class was fun I in driving i had Pete he had me on edge my palms where sweaty he got frustrated easy and anything he would say I couldn't process as he made me feel very nervous..... so for my brush I see amazing reviews on Robert on Google on there website... on my brush up before my real test I could parelle park hill park he was very patient and very kind.... Our son Sam had a fantastic experience at Derek Browns Academy of Driving and he passed his Driving Exam on the first try! Sam really liked his driving instructor Rob and his in-class instructor Ahmed. Beautiful nice building to take in-class studies in. We highly recommend Derek Browns Academy of Driving!
