Our Director, Dr. Heather Knoepfli, comes to Brant with a wealth of experience. She is a graduate of the University of Birmingham in England, has both a Master's degree and PHD from the University of Toronto, and an Early Childhood Education diploma. Projects have included Franny's Feet, Rob the Robot, Save Ums, Justin Time, Paw Patrol and True and the Rainbow Kingdom, among others.
Brant Children's Centre aims to provide a high quality, supportive and caring environment for all children enrolled. Although we recognize the importance of play, Brant is perceived as a school for young children. We are classroom-based with a focus on language, literacy and basic math skills. Our objective is to have children enter Grade One reading or at least having a strong phonetic background.
Since 1990, Brant has always had a golden retriever as a greeter. We started with Drummer, a dog that had such a reputation that Burlington became home to many "Drummers" as parents chose a similar pet for their own home! Today, we have Digby and Phoebe. Brant is a Roots & Shoots organization. This means that we believe in the objectives of Jane Goodall's world-wide Roots & Shoots Institute.
You can fax, mail or drop off the form to us. You can also arrange for a tour or a visit. Once a space becomes available, we will call you to arrange a time to come in to register. We always have names on a waiting list. However, it depends on when a space is needed. Spaces are most available at the beginning of September, the start of our school year, and the beginning of summer, the start of our Summer Camp period.
Most parents want to give their children a "head start" in life. In a 1999 study, Margaret Norrie McCain and Dr. Fraser Mustard found that a child's early years are the foundation years for brain development and learning potential. While this may sound intimidating, there are many ways to stimulate and enhance your child's development.
