Rustic Sourdough Bakery

Fantastic bakery with lots of selection. The German cheesecake is excellent, and much different than a New York Cheese Cake. Also, the pretzel buns are excellent - one isn't going to cut it. Highly recommend it.

Absolutely my go-to for baked goods!!! Most often purchases include their pretzel buns and German cheesecake. They carry Maultaschen and other frozen dishes, plus around Christmas a delicious Stollen. Very authentic flavours, love everything in this store!

There is a wide variety of bakery and pastry products to choose. Their croissants were amazing. Crispy outside and soft inside. Apple strudel was not too sweet with decently tart filling. The price was really cheap as an local, non-chain bakery. Will come back definitely.

The bread crumb bag leaked everywhere. The sourdough rye bread was not very good unfortunately. It seemed doughy and dense and was almost cold and wet inside and she sliced it without asking me. I did not want it sliced. Thank you very much but I will be sticking with the bakeries i already know and love. Take care!

The store had wide varieties of breads, pastries and meat! I had the blueberry lemon muffin, the cheese croissant and the turkey stuffed bread! Everything tasted amazing and the staffs were very friendly!

I love this place and we get our 6 birthday cakes here quite frequently. I am not sure why it is so upsetting to the girls that I called ahead to make sure the cake is ready for pickup. Perhaps better training for your staff. I guess the next three bday cakes this year will go somewhere else. The Black Forest roll cakes are really good though! I will miss them!

I go to this bakery regularly now for their whole grain bread, schnitzel and sausage, turkey and beef rolls as well as their yummy desserts. The staff are so friendly and helpful here. They gave me the background on whole grain bread versus whole wheat bread. The former being much healthier for you. The store is split between a bakery and deli. I have eaten in their deli in the past and their lunch soup and sandwiches are so delicious, healthy and filling. They are my go to place for my initial hunt for breads, croissants, buns, cakes, baked desserts and deli items.

Their cakes are perfect for birthdays; I've been purchasing them for years and there's nowhere in Calgary that's comparable!
I find their treats to be a welcome change to offer at meetings (business or condo board) rather than the same-old same-old.

The bakery. All the breads and cookies. We picked up the Christmas cookies this year. The quality and variey was great. No need to bake next year.

The schnitzel sandwich was good and a good price. The German white bread was pretty soft compared to the German breads I'm used to, but the Caraway bread was delicious.

Service staff asked if they could help and I said I was still looking. Proceeded to follow me each step I took. Very uncomfortable and unwelcome feeling.

Sandwiches made on freshly baked bread with generous servings of meat, fresh vegetables and a daunting selection artisanal spreads and sauces - this is the lunch you deserve, and the servings are huge enough that you're torn between saving half for later or making yourself gloriously overstuffed.

Head over to the bakery to have some ridiculously amazing desserts. You've been given fair warning - the hazelnut raspberry thumbprint will ruin you for lesser cookies, and every cookie in this world that isn't a hazelnut thumbprint is a lesser cookie. You will walk through a grocery store

The best bread in town. Old style, hearty, tasty, and additive free. If you can't get to their store, Edelweiss in the NW carries some of their breads.

Highly recommend to give this bakery a try. The owner and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about heir products. Their custard cream for their cakes is perfect not too sweet and creamy. They offer a variety of products from imported goods, cheese and fresh baked goods. Bonus: they offer samples!

Super cute inside and smells so good! The treats look amazing but their looks are superior to their taste, a bit disappointed with the bread and treats we bought. Service was nice and fast. They still German goods there which was really cool! One half of the store is a bakery and the other half a sandwich shop where you can get a sandwich or buy meats and cheeses. Pricing is not too bad considering location.

Our weekly stop for bread. Love how fresh it tastes and hardly lasts the day because we can't stop eating their delicious buns, rye, and rolls. Such a large selection of quality goods. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks for the great service we will come as long as we're living in Calgary.

We have been buying their cheesecakes and giving them as gifts and bringing them to potlucks for a couple years now and we are never ever disappointed. It's wonderful having a bakery where the focus is quality. Love this place!

Based on the other reviews I need to branch out and try more things, they have an amazing bakery and bread section and it smells delicious when you're walking by. I have stopped in the last two weeks for a chocolate croissant to spice up my Friday morning and when paired with a cup of coffee it's a heavenly way to start work. I stop by pretty early in the morning and there are clearly regulars who are stocking up on all their bread and pastry needs for the week.

Friendly staff, good service, lots of European goodies. Sandwiches are OK but overpriced. Very good fresh bread loafs....desserts too sweet. Cut on the sugar, things are never that sweet in Europe.

No fail, I at least.. buy the a few loaves of the Swiss Light Rye bread every week; It freezes nicely. My daughter loves the cheese buns. Their pretzel buns are THE best! You can not go wrong at this place. Sometimes, I will try some of their other offerings. The loaf cakes are yummy! The service is excellent, they are very down to earth and friendly. It is worth the trip to downtown. I hope they stay in business forever! In the deli area you can enjoy a custom made Sandwich, soup, or choose from their other offerings.

Very disappointed in their sausage rolls. The pastry was unbaked cardboard instead of the wonderful flaky pastry they used to have and the filling a bland ground meat that bore little resemblance to sausage. I hope this isn't going to be an ongoing outcome as a result of the change in ownership.

I walked into Rustic on the hunt for a tasty breakfast to go. After a bit of snooping, I realized that this wasn't the breakfast shop I was looking for at the moment, but the one I needed in my life. Even though they don't really do pre-made breakfast items, they were happy to help me out by microwaving an egg and slapping it on something from the bakery topped with something tasty from the deli. While I appreciated the offer, I decided to play by the rules of how this place seemed to be shopped at - by purchasing deli and bakery items and taking them away, putting them together at home

I have been meaning to review Rustic Sourdough for ages because it is just simply fantastic, but for some reason I kept putting it off. I went back this weekend and was hit over the head once more by the quality of the product, the friendly staff and then a stomach ache because I ate all the food too fast.

What do you get when you cross a soft, salty pretzel with a nice crunchy bun? You get Rustics amazing pretzel bun, which in my opinion may be the greatest invention since sliced bread.

Unbleached, untreated whole wheat flour as the main ingredient is a nice bonus as well. I may not ever want a little sandwich on anything else, but this could be a problem because I don't live here!

And, oh ya, they have lots of other breads and pastries which are good as well, but right now all I can think about is that pretzel bun.

Rice-a-Roni may call themselves the "San Francisco Treat", but if you've ever been there, you know the real treat to be the sourdough bread. But you don't have to go all the way tot the Bay area to get delicious preservative-free, hand-crafted sourdough bread. All you have to do is get down to the Rustic Bakery on 17th Ave SW.
Their artisanal sourdough bread is nice and crusty on the outside, and the inside is somehow dense and light all at the same time the way a great sourdough oughtta be.
