Ontario Peer Development Initiative
Maps and charts are great, but when planning a journey - or feeling lost on one - it's better to talk to someone who has been there, done that. Peer supporters are living, breathing proof that recovery is achievable. They can help you navigate the journey to wellness by shedding light on the rocky parts.

Ontario Peer Development is an organization of organizations. Our members are mental health Consumer/Survivor Initiatives and Peer Support Organizations across Ontario. These organizations are run by and for people with lived experience of a mental health issue or addiction issue. Our members provide a wide range of services and activities within their communities.
Services
OPDI represents the consumer voice by highlighting the achievements and challenges, potential and needs of our member organizations and the many individuals who use them. We represent their interests at the major provincial mental health/addiction policy planning and strategy implementation tables.
Laura joins OPDI with twenty years of experience in the Mental Health and Addiction System diverse experience providing direct service in shelters and supportive housing. Her work history includes serving as the Executive Director of a small community-based drop-in organization during a time of rapid transition.
We use a Skills and Diversity Matrix to identify experiences that contribute to the interests of the organization and its members and to assess our bench strength for the nomination process.

Although the directors' role is not to represent specific groups or regions, we aim to reflect the geographic and demographic diversity of our member groups - groups which may operate in urban, rural or remote settings and whose levels of empowerment range from complete independence, through various degrees of autonomy, to being small programs within mainstream mental health service organizations or institutions.
The acronym C/SI stands for consumer/survivor initiative, as loosely defined by the Ministry of Health when these organizations were originally funded. Over time, the governance of these groups has changed - some remain completely independent and consumer-run, with their own reporting relationships with their funding LHINs.
Our individual membership is currently available to individuals who are involved in providing peer support. If your organization has a peer support program they may be entitled to their own membership at no additional charge, please contact Allyson Theodorou at 1-866-681-6661 ext. 2 for more information.
