Services
Welcome to Fergus Eye Care, nestled in the heart of historic downtown Fergus! Opened in 1949 by Dr. William Dickie, Fergus Eye Care is the longest operating eye care clinics in Fergus. We continue this proud tradition by maintaining our strong connection to the local community through our history and devotion to our patients.
OHIP covers one major eye exam every year for patients 19 and under and 65 and over. OHIP will also cover annual comprehensive eye exams and follow-up appointments for those between 20 and 64 with a health condition that puts their ocular health at risk. Every insurance plan is different, so it's a good idea to know what your plan covers before booking your appointment.
No matter your age or health, regular eye exams are an essential part of preventive health care. We not only determine your vision prescription, but we also check how your eyes are functioning and look for vision problems and ocular disease. A comprehensive eye exam can also uncover other health issues, like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.
Many eye diseases develop and progress with little to no early symptoms, so comprehensive eye exams are essential at early detection. As we age, the macula starts to deteriorate, leading to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As AMD progresses, it affects central vision and can impact your ability to read, write, drive, or recognize faces.
Dry eyes can be painful and uncomfortable, and, if left untreated, can lead to long-term consequences. Dry eyes develop when you do not produce enough tears, or the tears you have are of poor quality. You may not think much about your tears, but they are responsible for protecting our eyes from debris and infection, keeping our eyes smooth and focusing light to help us see, and nourishing the eyes.

What a wonderful place, everyone was so friendly and warm! Probably the most thorough eye exam I've ever had. Dr. Reed was fantastic, she made me feel so comfortable and told me more about my results than any other optometrist I've seen in the past. Anne was a delight, and was VERY helpful and honest when I chose my glasses. Very happy with this place, I'll definitely be sticking with them!
