They are termed "scleral" lenses because they completely cover the cornea and extend onto the sclera (the white part of the eye). Scleral lenses offer certain advantages over corneal lenses. First, large-diameter lenses may be more comfortable than corneal lenses. The cornea is one of the most highly sensitive tissues in the body.
Myopia typically progresses in children as they get older because their eyes continue to grow. Myopia is an eye condition which causes distant objects to appear blurry. It is related to how your child's eyes are growing - specifically, their eyes are growing too long causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on the retina at the back of the eye.
They may be painless, and you may see no change in your vision until the disease has become quite advanced. The single best way to protect your vision is through regular professional eye examinations. Of course, between examinations, if you notice a change in your vision - or you think your eye may be injured in any way - contact your eye care professional immediately.

This was my first optometry visit in maybe 18 years, let alone first visit at Kitchener Eyecare and was incredibly impressed with the level of professionalism. From the start, I was made to feel comfortable and at home which is exceptionally nice during a first visit. Dr. Shanahan was super friendly and even after suggesting seeing a specialist kept me at ease and not worried whatsoever. I would highly recommend this clinic to all friends and family!!

Great place for eye dr. My family (grand parents, parents, me, etc) has been going here for many years. Also great service, no matter who is working.
They do direct billing to coverage plana which is a bonus. I get glasses and sun glasses every checkup but this time inquired about contacts, so probably getting Othro-K which you wear while sleeping at night and don't need to wear anything during the day. It reshapes your cornea temporary like Lasik, so you don't need to wear anything during the day.

Went back for a regular check up for the first time in over five years. My old doctor was no longer at the practice so I saw Dr. Shanahan. I couldn't believe how pleasant she was and how genuinely interested she seemed in solving or getting to the root of an issue. The other staff was also very friendly and helpful with everything. I would highly recommend Dr. Shanahan and the team at Mackenzie/Heslip Eyecare

Dr Mary-Jo Shanahan was extremely professional and has an amazingly comforting attitude. I was very stressed from the symptoms I was experiencing with my eye and she made me feel so much better about the condition and the eye exam over all. Other doctors and physicians should be as wonderful and as kind as she was when dealing with their patients. I definitely recommend seeing her for any eye care issues.

My husband and I had such a fabulous experience at Drs MacKenzie & Heslip Eye Care Office! We both had eye exams and with the help of Patricia, whom was very knowledgeable I picked out my new eyeglass frame! The staff and Dr. Heslip were so professional, kind and welcoming!
