Our expertise ranges from installing and repairing roasters to lending our experience to the training of roastmasters, baristas, competition judges, certifying q-graders, working with labs and professionals, but our love is roasting coffee. We believe each individual in the coffee industry has the responsibility to determine what they can do from their position, within their means, to the maximum extent of their dedication and ability.
With our particular skills and experience, we have attempted to making lasting, meaningful contributions by working directly with farmers and volunteering at origin. The Hines Signature Label represents coffees selected with quality and character as the sole determining criteria. We are pleased to announce our SCAA lab has been approved and registered for 18 students.

Recently took 6 days of classes (SCA Introductory Level courses) with John from Origins. Wow! What I didn't know about coffee! Great classes. John's a really knowledgeable instructor. Small class sizes allowed for lots of Q & A and individual attention. Highly recommend these classes for anyone interested in coffee, and John is the teacher to take them from.

I work with a coffee roaster in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State, US, and was on a solo vacation when I found Origins. It was great to find this gem on Granville, and chat with the owner for a bit. They are extremely knowledgeable roasters, and despite my popping in unannounced they were very welcoming and eager to talk shop with me. I made sure to grab a bag of their beans, and bring them back for a cupping. We thoroughly enjoyed the roast, and I would readily recommend Origins to those looking for a wholesale vendor.

It exists. They have a store front and a shop space, with a working espresso machine in it. You can buy beans but they don't sell coffee. This is stupid. You have all the components to be able to sell cups of your coffee, why wouldn't you? This laziness is a poor representation of the brand and displays absolutely no confidence in your product. Why would I buy a bag of your beans when you I can't taste them? You don't think you could sell $15 worth of cappuccino an hour to cover the costs of hiring someone to make them?

I actually saw this on Crystal H.'s coffee list and book marked since April 21st for a future visit. I don't understand how you're near Grandville Island and your closed on the weekends when most tourists come out during the weekend and then you're closed at 5 pm during the week. Am I missing something here?
Here is the problem. I got there 20 minutes before their scheduled closed time and they were closed. I came all the way down here for nothing. I was so upset.
20 minuets was enough time to make a drink for me I am sure.

Visiting from Colorado, a friend and I stumbled on this gem. We hit them at a time when stock was low, but we managed to each get a pound of beans each. And I have to say the Organic Flores beans are awesome. I usually purchase from artisan roasters such as Novo and Corvus when I am back home, and usually go with single origins in a french press. This place delivered some amazing tasting beans and I will definitely be contacting them to see if I can get some more sent stateside.

Smooth, rich, bright and full bodied... sounds sexy doesn't it? And it is. Roasted on site signals freshness and coming face to face with the equipment and people roasting equals a bean education.
Rules of engagement:
Know what kind of beans you need. Are you a French Press, Drip, or Espresso drinker?
Listen up! The selection is small, but like wine sommelier the staff here know their beans. "Crisp like apples," "More acidic," "If you are taking your coffee with cream..." etc.
Drink up. Take those beans home (don't be worried if they don't bring

Don't get confused, this is not a cafe where you can hang out and drink your coffee. It's a place to buy your beans and see actual roasting equipment. Situated on Granville Island away from the market, you really wouldn't find this place if it wasn't for word of mouth. They are our official coffee at my office, and the best office coffee i have ever had. They are also going to be a venue for The Fringe Festival, so catch some live theatre and take in the smell of coffee..or just buy some beans. The ones from El Salavdor are very seductive right now.
