The idea to start a psychotherapy practice focused on PTSD and trauma was formed in 2011, after Marleen Filimon left the United Nations Mission MINUSTAH in Haiti. She had been deployed to this part of the world to provide trauma therapy to UN employees, UN military, and UN first responders.
Marleen and her team of fellow therapists provided individual and group therapy, trauma and stress related workshops, and started a peer helper network to support all UN staff recuperate and move forward. The experience from her work in Haiti led to the concept of a therapy practice where first responders and survivors of trauma could find help and work on PTSD and trauma symptoms.

A natural response to going through a difficult and traumatic event or situation, is to start questioning your own life and the intentions of others around you. You might feel alone in dealing with the social stigma that is attached to experiencing intense emotions, and you might experience strong reactions such as nightmares, flashbacks, loss of concentration, memory problems and loss of interest in usual activities.
I'm a Registered Psychotherapist and specialize in working with First Responders and people dealing with mental health struggles. I obtained both my Bachelor Degree in Psychology, my first Master Degree in Cognitive Psychology and my second Master Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leiden in The Netherlands.
My educational career involves a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilfrid Laurier University majoring in Psychology and Biology, a Behavioural Science program from George Brown College, as well as a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am currently a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
