My name is Tom Mildren and I am the owner and operator of Basement Specialist, previously Tom Mildren Contracting. Since 1985, our company has specialized in basement waterproofing, foundation repairs and new basement foundation construction in the Hamilton and Burlington area. Our company is owned and operated by myself, Tom Mildren, a college-trained certified master builder with 36 years experience.

Basement Specialist is the most trusted basement waterproofing company in the Hamilton and Burlington area. Tom and his team have been doing basement waterproofing, structural repairs and new construction projects for more than 27 years. Our team members are licensed Sewer Contractors, licensed Drain Layer Contractors, and Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) certified.
At Basement Specialist, we can do lots of cool stuff with basements. We can do necessary projects like underpinning (strengthening and stabilizing your foundation) if the soil or strength of your foundation can't support your home. We can also fix beams and posts and bowing walls that may threaten the safety of your family and your home.
Excavating around your home is a big project. In fact, while exterior waterproofing is usually the best fix, it simply may not be in the budget for some projects or homeowners. Likewise, it may not be possible to access the foundation wall from the outside. In these circumstances, we can waterproof your basement from the inside.
Making your basement safe and dry depends on a number of factors. We need to determine where the leak or leaks are, how much water is coming in and the overall condition of the foundation. This way we can assess how to safely and cost-effectively fix the problem. For many projects, a proper fix will require us to remove the soil around the perimeter of your home so we can repair the foundation and make it waterproof again.
Innovation in construction happens all the time. However, one of the areas often overlooked is the foundation. Today, energy concerns are changing that. Now there are more choices available when building a new foundation. These choices reflect the fact that homes today can be built better, and homeowners want quality and value from new construction projects.

Ongoing problems with project to lower basement and add foundation walls to addition. Project started Feb 2018 and as of July 6th, I asked them not to return. Poor communication, no project plan with end date, excuses for delays, as reported to me by my neighbours, rarely working on site, unprofessional (house had mud coating floors, doors, washroom used despite sewer was not hooked up, walls destroyed ), poor workmanship... blockwork a mess; as of July 27th, water showing as coming through in two areas... This company removed all my ductwork and left in yard until May leading me to believe that

Tom and his son Connor completed a foundation repair from the outside of my house. There was a snag that required an excavator and the job turned out to be more than thought. Despite this snag, Connor completed the job on time. I can't recommend Basement Specialist enough. Fast, efficient and great value. Thanks for giving us peace of mind!

I should have done the work myself. A two week job took Five weeks in coldest time of the year. Hydro and gas bills were outrageous because the furnace was running 24/7. The siding and electrical conduit was damaged and I had to back and fix all the mistakes. Lastly I had to parge the outside wall to insure it didn't leak.

I do not recommend this company at all, very deceiving website makes them look professional but they are far from it. If you end up dealing with them, make sure you get everything in writing or they will take advantage of you. Problems from start to finish plus I've had to have them come back out numerous times to fix problems. Project was supposed to take 4 days and ended up taking two months. Tom tried backing out of things that we agreed upon and asked for payment numerous times before the job was done. Rude and unmotivated crew (2 guys) that only worked 4-5 hours a day even when project is

We had Tom and his crew underpin our sinking foundation as well as convert a crawlspace into a useable room a year ago. Although the job took much longer then expected (4 months instead of one) it wasn't all their issue. Bottom line is they did an excellent job and were absolutely great to work with.
