Somerville Dance Academy
Somerville Dance Academy provides professionally trained faculty, who strive to develop an appreciation and a love of dance in our students. Our facilities include 3 spacious and bright studios, sprung hardwood floors, ample parking and closed-circuit television for parents to watch from the waiting area.

SDA is proud to have been providing dance training in Richmond Hill for 25 years. SDA offers technique-based classes in several disciplines - acro, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, musical theatre, tap and tumbling. Students have the option to participate in examinations. All recreational classes participate in our annual recital, which support SickKids Foundation.
Services
Our Twinkling Tots and Sparkling Stars programs are a fun way to introduce 3 & 4 year olds to the world of dance. Basic ballet and jazz technique is incorporated into playful dance exercises, allowing children to explore movement and musicality. Children learn spatial awareness, and develop their fine and gross motor skills in preparation for future dance training.
We offer classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop to our 5/6 year old dancers. These classes build foundational dance skill in a playful way, while teaching technique in a specific discipline. Young dancers can explore the styles of dance most suited to them, allowing a unique outlet for energy and creativity.
This is a highly recommended class for our competitive dancers. Focus is on building and refining technique of turns (both ballet & jazz styles), and increasing each dancer's skill set. Time is also allotted to stretching to improve overall flexibility needed for competitive dance. Check out our video highlighting dancers who took turning technique classes during the 2020/2021 season.
This is an innovative body conditioning program developed for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best. PBT is extremely helpful to improve students' understanding of core stability, as it was developed by a ballet expert with input by a team of physiotherapists.
Somerville holds an annual recital each year in May, at the Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts. Recital is an important component of a dancer's training - allowing them the opportunity to perform on a real stage, with full hair, makeup, and custom-made costume. Dancer's build confidence and are excited to take part in a large-scale production.
