Seahorses Cafe is a locally owned, family operated restaurant. It has been a dinning establishment for approximatly 30 years, and before that a bait market, and before that a boat builders shop! Seahorses current owners have had it since May of 2015. The Cafe is located directly on top of water beside the Mill Bay Ferry.
While eating your meal keep your eyes open because chances are you will see some wild life. Some Animals you might see include, seals, jellyfish, crabs, Phillis (the blue heron), killer whales, racoons, the family of otters, king fishers, Hercules (the local dock cat), minks, and many other birds.

I worry if I say good things then everyone will show up...and I'll never get a table 😜 This is the best neighborhood watering hole ever - literally! You can rent a kayak or SUP for the afternoon, then enjoy lunch (or dinner) dockside. I don't think there's anywhere else in the south island who can claim these kind of bragging rights 😎 Also, if you needed any more incentive, the food is wonderful and the staff are so attentive and kind...your heart (and stomach) feel full after a dedicated visit! Thank you Seahorses!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

During covid times where we've only recently been venturing out to local restaurants, Seahorses cafe is a bright and welcoming establishment. We had the crispy 2 piece fish & chips which was satisfying with its freshness. Coleslaw was nice but bigger portion as it was well done would be nice. The best part- real ceramic plates not paper, well presented attractively, ketchup in a small cup and only the salt & pepper were individual. Good job! It felt like a " real normal" meal in these odd times.

I have more then a few food intolerances. They were kind when I asked about ingredients I needed to avoid and even inquired when they were not entirely sure. Everything was rave worthy! Their GF burger was one of the best I've had and topped with a yummy deep fried pickle! My husband thought the crab cakes were sublime and he thoroughly enjoyed the soup! There was no skimping on the crab. We are making thIs place our must stop when ever we come this way. There were Yummy looking things in the baked goods case that we wanted to browse but were to full. The people were great there! This gem

The supposed waterfront view is subpar...blocked by a bunch of moored vessels and a wooden ferry bridge. It took an hour to get the food to our table after ordering and the place was not at all packed. They must of used lived fish caught at the pier. This the the longest I ever waited for fried food. Bottom line is that if you are hungry or in a hurry and you don't want to suffer or waste your precious vacation time skip to other restaurants nearby.

Eating at seahorses was like stepping into a little oasis. Time slowed, the weather on the deck was great, the Jack Johnson music made you feel like this is exactly what you should be doing in the moment.
I highly suggest you try the poutine with pork added. You can get a small and eat it as an appetizer, because you're going to want to try more. I had the mermaid salad in wrap form with yam fries. It was all just delightful.

I have been to this gem a few times with family. This was a treat for a friend's birthday lunch. When we showed up the place was packed however we were told there were several current customers who had paid their bill and were expected to leave shortly. We were seated outside as we waited for a table which was less than 10 minutes. Once the table was cleared we were welcomed inside. It was a little cloudy and windy for sitting outside this day.
Our waitress greeted us and quickly took our beverage orders along with our lunch order. The food was freshly prepared and arrived quickly. My friend enjoyed

Great outdoor space near the water (as long as you don't mind the bridge to the ferry terminal next door - we didn't even notice it) and the food is quite good. Mermaid Salad with the crab cake was exceptional, and the salmon burger was great. Decent beer selection also. Service was a bit slow given a busy lunchtime rush, so maybe not the best spot if you're in a hurry. But otherwise a great choice.

Delicious lunch at this cafe. It was quite busy around 2:00 but we were able to get a nice table on the deck/patio with a nice view of the water and mountains. The drinks were delicious, we agreed it was the best long island iced tea we've ever had. The crab cake appetizer was delicious; hot and fresh - the salad that came with it was huge!!! But again, the veggies were fresh and tasted great. The chicken burger was good (it came with a deep dried pickle, which was not to my taste) and the shrimp wrap with avocado was fantastic ... it was so big I was sad I couldn't finish it. To top it off, they

This restaurant was situated underneath a bridge but overlooking the harbor on a very sunny day. We had the mermaid salad which had avocado, baby shrimp and a crab cake and we also had the pulled pork burger with fries. The food fulfilled our lunch need but the service was much less to be desired.
The food was ok...nothing totally eye popping. The meal satisfied our hungry appetites for lunch, however, the food took over 45 minutes to prepare and have served to us. We filled up on so much water and soda that we were drowning in beverages. At some point, we had to ask if they still remembered

This was a treasured find for the day!! Every item on the menu was delicious. Hubby had the pulled pork and I had the mermaid salad.
Don't miss out on their desserts. The coconut brownie and lemon tart were divine!
Darling atmosphere and attentive and Kind management. If you have extra time go kayak afterward!

We just pulled into Canada and, after a three hour trip on a ferry without any coffee or food, we needed to make a quick stop for both. We stopped by the water at the Seahorses Cafe. It is in a beautiful location. The outlook across the Sound is simply magnificent.
Inside, the cafe is bright and airy and the lady who served us is very friendly, very happy, efficient and helpful. We ordered clam chowder, coffee and tea and the world's best carrot cake.
It was a quick stop on the way to the hotel...but, after looking at the menu, we will probably go back tomorrow for breakfast. It's a

We enjoyed lunch here prior to going paddleboarding out on the bay. We ordered the veggie burger with fries, mushroom soup, a house salad, wings, and clam chowder. All of the food came quickly, was hot and tasted good but the service was what made it stand out. The two servers that were working were friendly, attentive, and so polite. They made the experience so memorable.
Then as we were leaving and walking to the parking lot we saw an older lady across the street fall and hurt herself. When I ran back to ask them for help they were right there getting ice and making sure she was ok.
