Calgary Vision Therapy
Welcome to Calgary's only neuro-cognitive optometric and perceptual learning clinic, Calgary Vision Therapy. Providing Developmental Optometry services, Dr. Brent W. Neufeld started Calgary Vision Therapy to help you achieve your potential. Did you know that over 80% of all the information that reaches your brain is through the visual system?

If your visual system is not working efficiently, your achieving potential may be limited. Having 20/20 sight does not mean that your vision is fine and that your vision has nothing to do with your perceptual or learning difficulties. Intensive in office optometric vision therapy will help improve most visual skills.
Services
Dr. Brent W. Neufeld graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1997. While associating at a large multi-doctor practice in the lower mainland British Columbia and then later in a smaller rural Alberta practice, Dr. Neufeld identified many visual dysfunctions (including kids with learning difficulties) that could be improved or corrected but not by glasses alone.
Allyson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science. Before coming to Calgary Vision Therapy, she has worked for several years as a private tutor helping children improve learning abilities and strive for learning excellence. Catherine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Included in her studies was Developmental and Perception psychology.
Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies. Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters.
Eye Tracking describes skills that we use every day to explore our environment, play sports, and most importantly, TO READ. Children with tracking problems have not learned to control the fine eye movements to follow a line of print. They will often lose their place, skip or transpose words, and have difficulty comprehending because of their difficulty moving their eyes accurately.
How the brain and eyes work together - vision - has a great impact on the learning process for both children and adults. Imagine sitting in a classroom taking notes and fighting a focusing problem that won't allow you to change your focus from near to far and back again quickly enough to keep up with the instructor.

I cannot say enough how life changing this therapy is. After having a sever concussion that led to a brain bled. I was unable to read, walk properly or even speak at times. Allyson and the team have done tremendous work to help be function again. I couldn't recommend this enough.

I very highly recommend Calgary Vision Therapy. As an older adult, I followed a therapy with them as I was suffering from persistent post-concussion syndrome resulting from 2 concussions: I could no longer read or write or use a computer or a cell phone, had strong photophobia (even grocery shopping was difficult because of artificial light), nausea, big peripheral vision problems, dizziness and many more symptoms, totally unable to work and to have a social life or even do my washing-up without feeling very sick. It took over a year of regular practice and my progress was 2 steps forward, 1 step

Our son struggled for years with various learning difficulties. We tried all kinds of different programs and therapies. It wasn't until Dr. Neufeld diagnosed him with a vision impairment/eye tracking problem that we finally unlocked the key to his problem. The therapy program at Calgary Vision Therapy was outstanding. The therapist my son worked with was so supportive, positive and encouraging. If you are seeing your kid struggle with school work, start here first I highly recommend it.

From the time my son was a newborn we noticed his eyes seemed to ‘wander’. Every doctor and paediatrician passed it off saying he was reaching his developmental milestones so there was no worry. As he grew his headaches worsened, every day he was in pain. We received a referral to Dr. Neufeld and his team when he was 14. Wow. The difference is amazing. After 6 months of treatment his pain is lower & his happiness is UP! Thank you so much for everything!! Dr. Neufeld and Cathy, you have changed his life ❤️

Honestly, I can't put into words how important it was for our son to have had this therapy. A year ago he couldn't read a full sentence or recognize simple words he read in the sentence before. It still makes me upset to think of his lost time. He now reads exceptionally well. His vocabulary has grown with his confidence and he reads on his own. It was challenging sometimes, but we now talk about those challenges and the benefits. We use it as an example of a building block for the future. Thank-you, Calgary Vision Therapy for your understanding, kindness and desire to help. I don't hesitate pass

Calgary Vision therapy was amazing at identifying my son's deficiencies in reading and processing information. He now excels at both reading, writing and math and loves school again. For any parent who is struggling with their child's reading, this is a great starting point for a thorough assessment in identifying the nature of their reading challenges. I highly recommend their services, it has been life changing for my son!

I took my daughter Sofia for a vision therapy couple of years ago, because I started to noticing one of her eye started "wandering" time-to-time. I think it's called a lazy eye. We went to Dr. Neufeld office, and we got a wonderful therapist, her name is Allyson. She was wonderful, kind, patient, and helped tremendously with Sofia's eye issues. Now I have to say, my daughter's eye is perfect. She still has to wear glasses, because of her astigmatism, but her eye are stable, not moving on it's own any longer. I would highly recommend this office to anyone who has a same problem with their child

My daughter was behind in her reading even though we had been spending time every evening reading with her. We went to Calgary Vision Therapy and found out that she had an eye tracking problem which made it difficult for her to keep her place when reading. She did vision therapy and her reading has improved a lot and she can remember more what she read. Her writing also became neater and she doesn't get tired as quickly as she did before. A big thank you to Calgary Vision Therapy and Dr Neufeld for your help.

A valuable service which directly benefits many applications. This business succeeds and produces results because the staff care about their clients. It's a powerful experience simply entering the office to read what some of their previous patients have written out of gratitude.

I couldn't be happier with Dr. Neufeld and Cathy. We started therapy last September for my Grade 4 daughter, who had been suggested to have ADD, ADHD and all those labels that some people like to put on kids just for the sake of it. Melanie didn't want to read, got distracted easily, and didn't keep focus on reading or writing. Her reading level… was at Grade 1-2. That was before therapy. Four months with lovely and absolutely amazing Cathy (she's sooo great!) means for us our daughter's love for books. Today she didn't go to school due to an infection, and she spent the day reading (yes
