Optical Factory has been a fixture in East York for decades. The store was opened in the 1960s by an optometrist and his wife. The current owner Fred Nojd was first licensed as an optician in 1981and has been here since 1989. Fred is a certified contact lens fitter with certification in scleral lens fitting and orthokeratology as well as conventional contact lenses.

Fred also has an appreciation for elegant spectacle design and the store carries many unique lines such as Orgreen, Blackfin, JF Rey, Boz, Parasite and more. Currently we are working by appointment to respect social distancing. The operating hours for the store are Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 3pm and closed Sundays.

I have been a customer at this Optical Factory for close to 30 years, mainly because of their excellent personal service. Fred never fails to have the latest information about the newest lenses and they also carry a great variety of frames. I always recommend Fred to all of my friends & family in need of contacts or glasses without hesitation!

I had a very good experience for new bifocals with transitions and another pair for working on the computer. He went out of the way to repair an old pair and then helped me to continue to use my existing glasses as well. So I’m setup for work and my daily routine. Many thanks.

I have been coming to Fred at Optical Factory for a few years, and have been thoroughly impressed with the good, old-fashioned customer service that I always get—the kind that seems to be a thing of the past everywhere. I purchased an extended warranty on the last pair of glasses I got, not thinking too much about it. What I didn’t realize at the time, or had probably since forgotten, was that my lenses would be replaced by the lab, completely free of charge, if damaged within the first year.
Who knew that puppies like to gnaw on lenses? Certainly not I. Indeed, my new puppy went to town on

I have getting my glasses from Fred at the Optical Factory for probably 10 years or more. The quality is always excellent. I always find a frame that looks good and is a quality product. He carries the very best and latest in lenses. I have a very strong prescription and Fred always offers me the highest quality available for the best price. I live in Durham Region and when his location had to change I couldn't find what he had for a comparable price. So I make the drive to Wynford Drive to get my glasses. It's worth it. Actually the new location is right off the Don Valley so it is not that big

I have had nothing but amazing service from Optical Factory. I like bright and bold frames and they carry a great variety of everything from classic to colourful ones, and lots of really nice affordable ones too. Fred makes sure the glasses fit right and the prescriptions are right. They even followed up a few weeks later after I got my first pair of progressives to make sure they are working out. Definitely recommend!

I can't say enough about Optical Factory East York. Fred and Elizabeth are absolutely the best. Let me clarify. I have been going to this same store for nye on 25 years.
