Pioneers in Patient Care So many dogs and cats fear going to the veterinarian. Not here. We are one of the original torch carriers of the Fear FreeTM movement. This movement is quickly changing the way our field thinks about the patient experience. With Fear FreeTM, we prioritize the emotional experience of a dog or cat, and design interactions around that.
This significantly improves patient care, because when pets exhibit stress responses, hormones alter their body temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. Diagnostics becomes guesswork instead of science, and futures are jeopardized. We have a Fear FreeTM certified veterinarian because we know what your pet means to you.

Dr. Mara Gerriets Ashby Hi, I'm Dr. Mara Gerriets Ashby, and I have wanted to be a small animal vet since I was very young. I didn't follow the usual path to veterinary medicine, but made my own way, ultimately leading me to build a full service animal hospital near you and becoming your newest Waterloo Veterinarian!
Cats and dogs live for the moment, rather than worrying about the consequences. Preventative medicine allows us to protect pets from harm in our modern world so they can continue to live happier as well as healthier lives as part of our families. Parasite Prevention Pets need parasite prevention to protect them from devastating diseases associated with parasites like Lyme and Heartworm disease.
Reproductive Sterilization Unwanted litters, a one in four risk of life-threatening infection, breast tumours and ovarian cancer are prevented by spaying, while neutering prevents testicular cancers and prostate disease. Behaviour benefits of spaying and neutering pets include reduced fighting between pets, reduced house soiling and reduced unwanted behaviours.
Monitoring of dental health Periodontal health is evaluated during every comprehensive exam. Periodontal disease can damage far more than your pet's teeth as it spread bacteria through their bodies and causes constant pain and inflammation.
Pain from broken teeth and oral disease often goes unnoticed at home because cats and dogs continue to eat and exercise with dental pain, but they often act more energetic and playful when the disease is treated.Dental homecare recommendations Homecare slows the progression of dental disease improving your pet's health and reducing your costs.

Behaviour Problem Solving Your pet's emotional health is as important as their physical health for good quality of life. As part of your pet's complete examination we ask about their behaviour in and out of the home environment and suggest changes to support their emotional well being.
Our Veterinarian can diagnose physical causes that may be responsible for behaviour changes, diagnose behaviour disorders, and prescribe treatments and sedatives to assist in behaviour treatment. Our Certified Trainer can help you modify behaviours that create issues and stress for both you and your pet whether they are a dog or cat.

Excellent medical care for your fur babies. Dr. Ashby and her team are extremely caring, competent, responsible, and respectful professionals. Dr. Ashby performed life saving emergency surgery on my cat, who swallowed a spoolfull of thread, and treated my immune mediated hemolytic anemic (IMHA) dog, who is now in remission. If you want the best care for your pets, I highly recommend Carriage Crossing, and I also would advise you that pet insurance is worth every penny, if you and your pet face the type of unexpected emergencies that we have faced.

Avoid this vet. It’s a short walk away from us and would’ve been super convenient but not worth the horrible service and pushy attitude. Our pup whined the entire time we were there. The vet was pushy, had horrible bedside manners, and blamed our dog for not listening and whining. They lectured us on the importance of healthy eating habits and tried to push their products/services on us, yet they were throwing pellet treats at our pup like there was no tomorrow ... way more than we’d give her in a day. We ended up taking our pup elsewhere and it was night and day — well worth the drive

Carriage Crossing is the best vet in the area! We recently switched over from a vet in Kitchener and I have been beyond impressed with the care, love and professionalism given from Dr Ashby and team. Our previous vet spent 5-10 minutes looking at our pup and prescribing costly medicines that may or may not have helped. Dr Ashby has spent multiple hours treating our pup and listening to us and answering our questions so we feel informed and in control of the issues and treatment plans. Moreover following each visit we get an email health card outlining what was discussed and tracking our dog's progress

I'm not sure where to start with this Vet.. While Dr. Ashby is nice and seemed to be helpful. The website is misleading, in regards to behavioural help. There is no team... It's one Vet, and that is Dr. Ashby. I emailed them back and forth in regards to my Bengal peeing outside the box, which has been ongoing since I got her as a kitten, so just… over 4 years. I've seen and reported to Dr. Ashby several cases where it indicates this is NOT a medical issue. The fact this has been ongoing for years, and it's not consistent enough to be medial, and it's in very specific areas.

Dr. Ashby was fantastic with seeing my dog on a semi-emergency situation. Her gentle manner and fear free approach really helped my dog stay calm. My dog didn't even flinch during what could have been a painful situation and left the clinic with her tail wagging. I would highly recommend Carriage Crossing Animal Hospital.

I dropped by on my way home today and met the Dentist. Her staff had a already left for the day. She was wonderful took the time to chat with me and asked lots of questions to get me ready to go see her on Tuesday. We will have a one hour appt. so we can review my needs and wants as far as she is concerned and what I think I will may need.

Wonderful and Loving staff no doubt!! However after going to her for a few years she recommended our 2 year old, health & active dog require X-rays & surgery on her knees & needed an answer by the end of the week..LOL. Coming from a medical background this didn't make sense so decided to get SEVERAL opinions. ALL other experienced vet we went to all said the same thing "There is no indication for this dog to have knee surgery, not even X-rays required"
