Services
For many people thinking about 'getting help' can be hard. Deciding to see a psychologist or therapist to help with feelings of depression, worry, stress, anger issues, self-esteem, trauma, or so many other issues can be embarrassing, scary, or anxiety provoking. Sometimes we know when we need help.
Children may exhibit psychological distress differently than adults. In the same way that a pediatrician has special training to medically treat children, a child psychologist or child therapist has advanced training in working with children that a regular counsellor does not. The advanced training is necessary because children's brains do not work like adult brains.
Effective couples counselling or marriage therapy requires a clinician who is skilled at both individual work, and the complexities of couples communication. A good couples therapist is able to help each person recognize their own needs, the needs of their partner, and the needs of the relationship.
It is necessary that psychologists and therapists who work with First Nations, Inuit, and Residential School survivors and their families have special training and experience. Treatment must be respectful of the beliefs and traditions the client brings to the sessions. Healing comes through being listened to and heard.
PTSD, trauma reactions, workplace stress and other mental health issues are now recognized as a common risk for police, paramedics, EMTS, firefighters and 911 dispatch workers. Edmonton Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers recognize more and more the benefit of having psychologists and therapists who are trained in providing therapy and counselling for First Responders.

Being at Firefly Counselling has been fantastic. From the first phone call, the staff are friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to let me know how to find the office. The therapy rooms are spacious, which really helps with overall comfort in Covid times. I worked with two different therapists at Firefly as I was doing couples and individual work. While their styles were different, they clearly cared about me, and my relationship with my partner. There was lots of times where they took extra time into their lunch hours or stayed longer at end of day sessions to help me and my partner

Horrible experience. I booked online when I was having severe depression and mental health crisis and then got very sick with food poisoning. They cancelled my appointment on me because, even though it is not listed anywhere, they will call you for your credit card number. If you don't answer the call for example you're very sick, they will just… cancel it. I showed up at my time, it was terribly difficult mentally even to get dressed let alone get to their building and they rudely denied me and told me to leave while I was having a panic attack. This company does NOT care about your well

I went to Firefly Counselling for help with my marriage. We saw Kris and he was fantastic. While we were working on that I realized that a lot of my past trauma stuff was part of the problem. So Kris suggested that I see Karin to help with that. She was super supportive. I didn't realize how much my past was impacting me every day, and my… marriage. With Karin's help that stuff got dealt with. Kris also suggested that my wife see Renee to help her deal with all the anger that had built up over the years because of my trauma reactions. Mary said that Renee was super kind and really helped

My friend recommended Firefly Counselling to help with our very moody teenage son. We were worry he was getting involved with the wrong crowd and was starting to try drugs and alcohol.
It was hard to get him to go the first time, but he therapists at Firefly were fantastic. They use lots of different approaches like art and music therapy, which he really responded well too. After a few sessions his attitude started to change. We now have our son back. Thank-you!
