When you walk into the Shaughnessy Optometry eye clinic, we see more than just a patient; we see a whole person. We don't simply want to diagnose and treat any eye issues you may have; we want to connect with you as a person. Our staff is warm, friendly, and caring, and we provide comprehensive eye exams in Vancouver to protect our patients' eyes, vision, and overall health.
We believe that eye exams are an essential part of preventive health care as many eye problems have no obvious symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye problems can help prevent vision loss. Each patient's symptoms are unique, so we use that to determine what tests are conducted during their eye exams.

Your eyes are always changing. Structures and textures change with age, functionality is altered, and some systems can stop working over time. And while you'd think these things would be obvious, for the most part, they happen without you even knowing it. Regular eye exams allow us to carefully evaluate the overall structure, health and functionality of your eye; both inside and out.
Vision is the cornerstone of a child's learning and development processes. They'll rely on sight for fundamental skills like walking and talking! Being proactive and ensuring your child has healthy eyes is a good way to set them on the road to success early. Your child's first eye exam should be at 6 months old.
Eye care for seniors is much more detailed than just getting a stronger eyeglass prescription or switching from single focal lenses to progressives. There are a number of health risks and degenerative conditions to look out for. When you book an eye exam with Shaughnessy Optometry, we'll not only give your eyes the attention they need; we'll make sure you understand all of our findings and what they mean for your health.
Finding contact lenses that fit you, function properly, and feel comfortable can be frustrating; but it doesn't have to be. We'll work with you to find your optimal pair of contacts. Book your contact lens exam and fitting with us today. Before we send you home with your new contact lenses, there are a few steps to go through.

My favourite optometrists, opticians and selection of glasses in Vancouver. Everyone there is very friendly and knowledgable from the medical perspective of things to the possibilities of styles to choose from as well as the selection of glasses!
They have some high tech equipments there that I have never seen anywhere, it's really cool to go through all the process.
Parking is really easy, there is a lot beside RBC or just regular street parking (mind the rush hour restrictions).
I am about to book again so I can update my eye exam and excited to visit. Can't wait!

I visited Shaughnessy Optometry after reading positive yelp reviews. I have now had 2 appointments there and I couldn't be less impressed. Dr. Sexsmith rushed through my appointment, which ended up costing far more than the BC standard. My insurance usually covers 110% of whatever the province recommends a medical service should cost, and I was still out quite a bit of money. Their contact lenses are extremely overpriced. They try to trick you into buying them from their clinic rather than seeking our less expensive competitors. The receptionist was incredibly short and wasn't at all

I went to Shaughnessy Optometry for an eye exam and an updated prescription after my friend endlessly gushed about Dr. Sexsmith.
I wanted to know what the commotion was about as I regarded an eye exam the same as a dentist visit (but less painful, hopefully).
The brightly lit office was stocked with walls of eyewear. I took the liberty of trying some glasses on while I waited for my exam. They had a good selection, but due to my above average sized head, I'm very particular about my glasses (and hats).
Dr. Sexsmith made me feel very much at ease during my exam and answered any questions

My 4.5 years daughter is the patient. I know nothing about eye care. The Doctor is good (as far as I can tell, I don't have the credentials). She answer my question in a manner I can understand.
My biggest problem is front desk service. It's just wrong. I was sold glasses that didn't fit her. She has a flat nose which makes it hard to pick the right one but being a noob, I would expect an optician to help me what would work, not what my kid think is the cutest!
I came back for fitting one day and the lady told me the glasses were scratch and I needed new ones. $250, please and

I have a lazy eye and it took me a long time to finally go and see the doctor; I realized I was reading less and my vision was getting blurry. So I finally booked an appt, arrived to a very efficient and friendly office. I could not believe how many tests were run which gave me more confidence in the doctor and made me comfortable. The eye exam was $98, I was there for about 1.5 hours and I chose some beautiful frames. The final cost of my glasses was $375 which included the frames and the lens. There was lots of choice and I tried on many which was fully supported
