Services
True North Psychological Services first opened its doors in Kentville after being founded by Dr. Mark Johnston in 2013. As a psychiatrist, Dr. Johnston believed in the integration of mental health professionals and wanted to cultivate the connection between psychology and psychiatry. Since opening, True North has expanded to three other locations across Nova Scotia, including New Minas, Kingston, and Halifax.
True North is dedicated to helping all those who suffer from mental health issues, regardless of age, race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We practice a holistic approach to mental health. How we think, feel, and behave is the result of complex interactions between our biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors.
The first time you call to book an appointment, you will be greeted by our front desk staff. Each clinician has specialty areas of practice and to match you to the right one, you will be asked for a very brief description of the reason for seeking counselling or a specific assessment. You are also welcome to book via email if that is your preference.
True North takes great pride in caring for Canada's service personnel. Our psychologists specialize in working with Military Members, Military Veterans, RCMP, First Responders, and Correctional Officers to address the unique needs of these populations. We work closely with governmental organizations to care for these service members.
