Our doctors are committed to keeping current in optometry through continuing education and staying up to date with the latest treatments, trends and technology. Dr. David Friesen was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He attended the University of Alberta, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2007.
Although updating your glasses or contact lens prescription is a very important part of your visit to Marine View Optometry, it is only one part of a comprehensive eye exam. We use various pieces of equipment to examine eye health from front to back. Sometimes drops may be required to dilate your pupils in order to get a broader view of the back part of the eye.
That's why we carry a huge selection of quality eyewear brands like Ray-Ban, Gucci, Oakleys, and Maui Jim. Contact lenses provide many benefits and are a great alternative to glasses. Technology today has enabled farsighted, nearsighted, astigmatic, and presbyopic patients to enjoy the freedom of contact lenses.
We are located in the Marine Gateway complex on the southeast corner of SW Marine Drive and Cambie St. Our unit is upstairs above the Starbucks, and between the bubble tea shop (Yi Fang) and the Chinese restaurant (Neptune Palace Seafood Restaurant). After getting off the bus, head up the stairs towards Starbucks, and up a second set of stairs beside the Starbucks to the 3rd floor.

Very convenient location. It's on the 2nd floor near the exit of the SkyTrain station of the shopping complex. Dr. Luk was very helpful and patient. She was much more thorough with explaining my prescription and options than my previous optometrist. I find the contact lens she prescribed to be accurate. Tried 2 other places before and they couldn't get it right.

I had a great experience here. 2 years ago, I randomly dropped in for an eye test that needed to happen quickly for something and I was booked on the same day. I recently made the switch to contacts and it happened smoothly and quickly. Front reception/desk is quick to response to emails. Dr. Friesen assisted me on both occasions.

I cannot recommend Dr. Stephanie Luk enough! She really knows her therapeutics! I had a corneal abrasion (scraped a visible hole into the surface of my eye) and needed urgent treatment. She saw me quickly, inspected my eyes with drops under the scope, gave a vision test, prescribed antibiotic eyedrops, dilation eyedrops (to reduce pain/pressure), moisturizing drops and even put a pair of soft contact lenses (which acted as a bandaid) on top of my eyes (which I could leave on and sleep in for 2 days). My experience with Marine View Optometry was seamless and satisfactory. I booked an eye exam on their website and went in to get my eyes checked and new glass frame and lenses ordered. They even gave me a glass box and a small bottle of lenses cleaner with my new eyeglasses. People working there are friendly and helpful, will return and recommend! :)

I had an eye test done here twice.. and got my eyeglasses from here. Both the optometrists I saw were fantastic. I don’t like my eyes being meddled with.. eye drops, poking around such things but they were very patient with me which made me feel safe and comfortable. The receptionists have also been very nice.

The BEST optometry ever! This place was so clean. I've never experienced the professional service like this before. My son did an eye exam for the first time. A receptionist and a lady doctor treated him so nicely, made my son relax and not scared anymore. She explained details about my son examination and also suggested my daughter would do the same regularly. She was so care with her patients and not in rush in giving an exam. Convenient location on upper floor of Marine Gateway Hub. Appointment for my infant with Dr Gill who was KIND, GENTLE and PATIENT. Really lovely. Excellent availability with easy booking online. Does not have an automatic door button for those who may have mobility needs or a school of kids and kid stuff.
Would give 4.5 stars but unfortunately not an option on google maps. -0.5 star as there is signage on the main door for eye exams for kids (free until age 18 under MSP) but the clinic doesn’t seem entirely prepared to see little kiddos.

The optometrists at Marine View Optometry are professional and extremely helpful. My new glasses and contacts are prefect! I can now see clearly with no issues. The staff including the receptionists go above and beyond my expectations. I've never had such amazing customer service as I had with them. I recommended Marine View to all my friends and family. My mom (who is a senior) recently had her eyes checked and she was so happy that Dr.Luk took the time and patience with her.
