My partner and I came in today and I asked for their opinion of what their favourite of the eclaires were, whipped cream or custard. I got recommended the custard and holy, I am so glad I tried it. Absolutely delicious. The custard was so smooth and creamy. I will for sure putchase more again when I am in the area!

After shopping here for nearly 20 years I have to say that my experience today has left a foul taste in my mouth and I believe it was all the result of one of the owners.

Not too sweet overall but they like to put small, way too sweet parts in their pastries. The pink puff has an outer pink coating which is way too sweet. The custard filled cone is too sweet, had they not covered it with loads of powdered sugar it would have been perfect. Also I wish they had used diplomat cream instead of pure custard.

Hats off to Lonn the Cake Artist at Fortuna! She created this beautiful (and delicious!) watermelon themed cake and cupcakes for a family reunion we had earlier in August. Just amazingly talented! Thank you!

Today, I went into this bakery to buy some baked goods, pecorino and ‘lady fingers’ to make tiramisu. However, got home and found Mold in my package of sealed ‘lady fingers’.
I’m sure mistakes happens. I just want folks to look out for this if they recently bought this item. It’s easy to miss and you don’t want to get sick from mold.
Couldn’t find my receipt, so I didn’t return to exchange at the store.

If I could give a dozen stars I would. I needed a cake for a last minute birthday party. I live in Oliver, BC and needed it for a friend in their area. They pulled it off! Not only were they SUPER kind on the phone but they stayed open past closing time because the person picking up the cake thought they closed at 5 instead of 4.
This bakery has won my respect and I will forever order all cakes through them! All of my long distance cake bombings will go through them!
The cake was also HUGE! It would have fed twice as many people as were there. For $58 I was in awe! BEST PLACE EVER!

I use to buy my bread and buns here - it couldn't be beat. But lately, and this has been multiple times, the bread has been old. I think they "refresh" the day old in the oven, but it is NOT fresh. If they are going to sell me day old, let me know and knock a couple of dollars off. It's a shame because their fresh bread makes you want to swoon!

I absolutely LOVE this bakery. The staff is lovely and they have the most amazing Portuguese Buns. You have to try them to believe it. One of my other favourites are all their pies. Most recently my husband and I enjoyed a delicious strawberry rhubarb pie and it was honestly the best I've ever had. They make everything from scratch and with no preservatives. I highly recommend you try out this incredible bakery.

Bakery was clean and staff were friendly. I found it pretty cool that this place also has a deli with Italian goods. Things such as meats, dried pasta, pasta sauce, biscuits and even espresso.
I purchased 5 items from their bakery cabinet. I haven't had all of them yet but so far so good.
Overall I had a good experience here today

This is a nice bakery stocking lots of sweet treats and bread loaves. I tried a blueberry scone and almond birdnest cookie. The scone was light in texture but rich in flavour and the cookie had a delicious melty texture. Neither was overly sweet and both tasted fresh even though I didn't eat them the day of. The person working was really nice and seemed eager to help.

The one and only location in North Burnaby for true, perfect Portuguese buns. The selection of breads are varied and delicious as are the sweet pastries, cookies and cakes. They also have a small deli section that has just the right meats and cheeses to make it a one stop shop. There are also fresh roasted whole chickens available periodically for that quick lunch/dinner when you're in a pinch. Highly recommended!!

There were 3 accidents on the number 1 this morning, and traffic was almost at a complete standstill on Hastings. Luckily, for me, that meant stopping in at this lovely bakery and grabbing a coffee and muffin while I waited for traffic to subside. The blueberry muffin was moist and tasty and the self serve Tuscany coffee absolutely hit the spot. I love that there was a group of older gentlemen who seemed like regulars that took over one side of the bakery. They were laughing away at 9 in the morning and this gave it a very homey feeling.

While their treats may not be the best along The Heights, their bread certainly is. I've tried all of the bread that's produced in the area and none of come close to Fortuna's. The outer crust has a slight crisp with the inner being this soft chew just as you would want to expect out of a quality bread. The bread itself is also quite flavorful too! It's no wonder you see people everyday walking out with bags full of them, and some times, even boxes!

They also supply the bread to Anton's few stores down.

Bread: 5/5
Treats: 3.5/5
Service: Hit or miss, depending on how

This bakery has been there forever!
I love those Portuguese Buns, the ones that everyone buys by the dozen to take home and freeze. I definitely was one of those patrons. Once a month for three dozen and an extra treat of custard square...yum.

The first time I purchased pastries and goodies from here it was at Christmas 2015. We were all quite disappointed with pretty much everything. Then not long ago I was shopping nearby and thought I'd get something yummy for a couple friends who were ill so I picked up some eclairs. They were extremely disappointing as this is a bakery not pre-boxed products in some big box store. The pastry part was almost ok but the chocolate was beyond understanding. We held pieces of the chocolate between our fingers and it wouldn't melt!!! That's inexcusable from an actual bakery. It was tasteless

I've been to Fortuna on several occasions now, and I can say that their Portuguese buns are absolutely fantastic. They're light and fluffy on the inside, but have a nice chew to the outside. I usually buy about a half dozen of them and they last at least several days. They're pretty cheap (I think $0.25 per?) and they hold up well in sandwiches. They've become my go to bakery whenever I know I'll be making sandwiches and want a good bun to go along with it.

I love their Portuguese buns but decided to try some of their baked goods.

The coconut bird's nest cookie was my favourite. Buttery perfection.

The French macaron looked right. The shell was good. However, the filling was the same raspberry filling as the bird's nest cookie. I prefer the buttercream fillings rather than jelly.

The custard filled cream horn was a crispy shell with creamy custard. Nice light dessert.
