Services
Our mission is to provide quality optometric care that is instrumental to a lifetime of optimal ocular health in the St. Thomas community. At First Optometry, we want to redefine your eye care and eyewear experience every time we see you. As a locally owned family business, we build relationships based on mutual trust, knowledge, compassion, and kindness.
Myopia (nearsightedness) is very common, affecting about 30% of Canadians and beginning primarily in childhood. While kids with myopia can have clear vision with glasses or contacts, high myopia comes with risks of vision loss later in life. Specially designed eyeglasses and contact lenses can help slow the progression of your child's myopia as they grow, leaving them with a lower prescription in adulthood.
Laser eye surgery has excellent results in correcting vision for people who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. We can help determine if you're a good candidate for laser eye surgery, plus help you care for your eyes in the days, weeks, and months following surgery.
We also support patients before and after refractive lens exchange, which is sometimes the best option for very farsighted people or those with presbyopia, and is also how cataract surgery is performed.Book your appointment today and learn if you have a glasses-free, contacts-free future ahead of you.

Are you noticing that your eyes are tired, blurry, or dry after a few hours of working on a computer? What about sore shoulders or headaches? These are all common symptoms of digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome, which affects many people who use screens even for just 2 consecutive hours a day.
Many eye diseases develop without any noticeable symptoms, so an eye exam is the best way to catch diseases early when they're easier to treat. In your eye exam, we'll use our diagnostic equipment to see the earliest warning signs of diseases that may threaten your vision. From there, we can create a personalized treatment plan to manage any identified conditions to help protect your vision.

My wife needed her glasses repaired after a fall. When we arrived at the store for the appointment, my wife was not able to leave the car to go into the First Optometry facility. A very nice Lady told my wife to stay in the car and this Lady fixed my wife's glasses outside the facility. We very much appreciate the kindness and customer service.

I got new lenses there and couldn't I couldn't use them. Everything was blurry. I gave them chances to correct it but they made two more sets of bad lenses for me.
added to reply to the response from owner: The correction did not help. Please read the above "I gave them chances to correct it but they made two more sets of bad lenses." I ended up going to a different optometry place to get glasses that worked for me.

I have been going to first Optometry for all of my eye exams and glasses. Dr Stephanie Millar, and the receptionist team are extremely helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable! They have a wide variety of frames that are very affordable. I would highly recommend First Optometry! Overall excellent service and experience.

I stand corrected...there is an optician at first optometry.
Between the optometrist Dr. Millar and the optician Tanya they were able to solve my issues with my frames as it was really a problem with my lens.
Both of them listened to and validated my concerns.
During covid it is certainly a stress on all and please let it be known I appreciate these front line workers.

.........First Optical had many more excellent frames available in my price range and style than other optical stores. The staff was very friendly and helpful. An assortment of free products were included in my purchase. Here's where they earned that fifth star....I ordered them on Monday....and picked them up on Friday.

Lots of selection. I don't know if it is a store issue but within 3 months the frame was broke and a couple months later the inside of the lenses pitted. I have had glasses for a number of years and am quite careful with them...no Kleenex or paper products ever. I was told eyelashes can cause scrapes, are you kidding. Regardless, my glasses are sent off for the new lenses and I am back to my old ones (4 yrs) with no scratches, until my 2x repaired ones return. Again, selection was good and no waiting.
