According to the Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists, kids should have an initial orthodontic screening at age 7. What makes early evaluation - and potentially, early treatment - so important? There are several ways that kids can benefit from seeing an orthodontist at an early age. In most cases we simply evaluate the bite and monitor your child's growth patterns until we see that it's time for treatment to begin.
There are several good reasons why adolescence is the optimal time for orthodontic treatment. It's easier to treat many orthodontic problems during adolescence because the body, jaws and bones are growing rapidly, and the results will last a lifetime. Whether we use braces, clear aligners, or removable appliances, we can create a healthy beautiful smile in the shortest period of time.
We're seeing more and more adult orthodontic patients these days, and it's not hard to figure out why. Appliances that are barely noticeable have been developed to give adults more discreet choices when it comes to orthodontic treatment. And many adults realize that investing in a smile makeover can have significant benefits, socially and professionally.
Creating your new healthy smile is our goal but it is very important to keep that beautiful result. This typically involves wearing an orthodontic appliance called a retainer. Several different kinds of retainers are available, all of which are custom-made just for you. We will recommend the type that will work best in your situation, and we'll tell you exactly when and how long you need to wear them.
Kids who take part in athletic activities - whether they're playing on organized sports teams, bicycling, or just kicking a ball around - gain a host of well-documented health benefits. Yet inevitably, along with all the fun, the possibility of injury always exists. Among the mouth injuries dentists treat in children, it is estimated that over 25% are sports-related, and the majority of these involve the top front teeth.

My upper and lower front teeth were starting to overlap so I did some research with our Dentist and found Dr Mark Gwertz in Oakville. He was reasonable confident that I could use the Invisaligne system to straighten my teeth without braces. He was right. It took over a year but the effort was worth the wait. Mark encouraged me all the way through the process and I am now doing my annual followup checks. Marks staff were all really helpful and happy to answer any of my questions throughout my transition. My teeth are perfect now and I am happy to smile for any photos or videos. Now if he could only

In addition to needing braces, our daughter complained of headaches and jaw pain for at least one year and could not open her mouth very wide. At our first consultation meeting, Dr. Gwartz determined that before she could start with braces, a mouth guard would need to be worn until her jaw was comfortable. Dr. Gwartz took the time to fix the underlying issue of our daughter's jaw first. The headaches went away, she could open her mouth wide, and then her teeth were beautifully straightened. We thank Dr. Gwartz and his exceptional team for the best care a person could hope to find! I still ask sometimes
