A learning hub for building and repairing bikes, offering safe cycling education, providing access to affordable transportation, and fostering a rich and inclusive cycling community. New Hope Community Bikes started in 2008 as an initiative of New Hope Church. We are a registered charity and social enterprise that seeks to get more people on affordable, reliable bicycles and provide employment and job training opportunities for youth.
We believe bicycles can help build a healthier, more environmentally friendly community and that everyone should have access to affordable, efficient transportation. We build and restore bikes to a variety of price points and rider specifications, offering everything from cheap winter commuters to unique one of a kind custom bikes.

Services
Tools and shop space are available whenever the shop is open on a first-come, first-served basis. This means if it's busy you may have to wait for someone to finish with a workspace before you can start your own DIY. New Hope Community Bikes offers structured, hands on repair nights that cover the basics of bike repair.
Our DIY space has 7 fully equipped work stations with stands and a full set of tools. This space is available Tuesday to Friday from 3-5pm on a booking basis. Staff and experienced volunteers are always available to help troubleshoot your bike problems and teach proper techniques. Stand/Tool Rental is a suggested donation of $5/hr or $10/hr if we are providing you with in depth instruction.
The internet has a wealth of knowledge on bike repair, there's lots of great videos, documents and other resources out there to help you complete your own repairs. Many bike problems can be easily addressed with some basic tools and knowledge. If you have some basic tools at home you may be able to save a trip to the shop, but if you're missing a tool, that's exactly what our DIY time is for.
Our education programs are designed to develop practical life-long skills through safe cycling. Using the Ontario physical health and education curriculum, our program is engaging and interactive, equipping students with new skills and cycling abilities. Ride Smart skills create safer riders and safer future drivers.
Something new for 2021 is the Spoke Jar. It's a tangible reminder of the charitable core of New Hope Community Bikes. Spokes can be purchased for $5 at time of purchase or on our online store. Spokes can be used to pay-it-forward, allowing someone who needs help to keep rolling. Anyone who needs help paying can use up to 2 spokes to cover the cost of parts such as a used part, tube, shop labour or their DIY time.

Love the program. Bought my bike here very cheap a few years ago and the bike is fantastic!!! My friends see it all over town and know I’m around when they see it. Another friend tried to buy it off me, because my bike is so cool now. Obviously I said no. Haha. It was great seeing young people employed at this store. I’ve never had anything go wrong with the bike, I’ve got even needed new tires. I bought some lights from the dollar store and it was all good to go. I would come back anytime and I highly recommend it.

This bike shop is a hidden gem in Hamilton. The guys there are down to earth, friendly and honest. The are so reasonably priced that you think you are taking advantage of them. If you looking for a bike repair shop who will charge you for excellent work, economically and in a timely manner then this is the place for you. You will not be disappointed.

Our family attended NHCB's first virtual Bike Repair workshop and they did an excellent job with it!
We loved being able to a) do it in real time and b) ask questions real time and get some guidance and direction. I truly feel way more confident in going out on my bike knowing that I can at least change a tire. That’s a huge impact for me and our whole family. We'll definitely attend another one!

I took my bike in to get my gear cable replaced and gears tuned up. They ended up shortening my chain. Service was quick and well priced. My first ride out my chain broke. I wasn't doing any crazy biking. I was literally going down a street. Not sure if there was a weak point from shortening. I sent them 2 messages and tried calling. No one ever replied or returned my messages. I think a company should stand behind their repairs. At least respond to messages sent. Really disappointed in their customer service. My mom and brother both were going to bring their bikes in for repair because I recommended

Just went for the first time today, I was looking for some parts for a E Bike project I am doing and the people where very helpful. They did not have the parts I needed BUT what he did was supply a complete parts bike for cheap. So now I have a ton of parts and will be on the road in no time. Thanks

Don't let negative reviews dissuade you. This is the best bike shop in the city and a fantastic resource to get things fixed properly. I always have a great time whether it's buying used parts, trying out a new bike or fixing up one of my own. They train and hire young people who need a job downtown and provide a great service to everyone who comes in the door.
Also the new location is fantastic. Congrats on the community grant! A bright spot on a dreary part of Main in desperate need of a kickstart.

Fixed me up in no time. Great price. Great selection of affordable refurbished bikes. Went to a high end bike shop yestrday. Advertised as being able to work on all models. Was told they didn't have the right tools to fix me up. Went into new hope today. In and out in 30 mins. Fixed my flat and tuned me up. They hadn't even settled into the new location yet and still had no trouble helping me out. Epic work. Very grateful to have them in the community. Highly recommended.

New Hope Community Bikes has moved to a new bigger location at 1249 Main St E. They still sell used bikes, help you fix your own bikes/DIY or they will fix it for you. They have new and used parts. You can donate your bikes and accessories here, to help more people get into biking. They also have worked with thousands of kids to teach them how to ride.
