Sonata School of Music is a highly reputable music school located in South Calgary, providing music instruction with the world renowned Yamaha Music Education System (YMES). We are the largest licensed Yamaha Music School in Calgary and the second largest licensed Yamaha Music School in Canada serving over 800 students in a wide variety of musical instruments.

Sonata School of Music was established in 2005 to introduce the Yamaha Music Education System to the City of Calgary. With the right method in place, we believe that music learning could be fun, enriching and rewarding. Our philosophy is not only to teach children how to play instruments, but to show them how to study music.
Sonata School of Music also offers private music lessons in a variety of instruments for students of all ages and skill levels. All lessons are conducted by certified instructors on a weekly basis. You will receive highly personalized instruction based on your own goals, strengths, and areas which need the most improvement.
As an authorized musical instrument dealer, we also offer a wide selection of Yamaha keyboard & guitar instruments to add convenience in our students' music learning experience. We offer keyboard models such as the PSR series & DGX series, and also JR & F series guitars.
Sonata Yamaha School of Music offers the Yamaha Instrument Rebate Program where you can purchase any Yamaha instrument, and receive 10% of the value of the instrument purchased as a lesson tuition credit towards Yamaha Music Education System group course lessons at our School.The Year-end Gala Concert for Group students is the signature event that showcases our students and what we do best.

Candidates interested in a career as a Yamaha Music School teacher must pass the screening process and meet the current staffing needs of the school. Potential candidates will be invited for an audition/interview where they will be required to sing and play. The next step involves the teacher candidates successfully completing the Teacher Candidate Evaluation (TCE) - which consists of performance and written tests.

Great music school! I took lessons there for over 9 years, starting with group lessons in JMC1, and in the end achieved level 10 RCM piano certificate with first class honors. The teachers are all very nice and helpful, and made the learning process enjoyable. Prices for lessons are also very competitive and reasonable for the quality they provide. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to take music lessons, regardless of ability.

Love this style of teaching. It's all about learning how to play and sing in a fun group setting. Parents need to be involved to get the most out of it. Much better system than how I learned as a kid. By myself, no parents involved, no singing and dancing. No wonder I quit after a few years.
