Dr. Heather Cowie received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo and most recently completed her Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Heather is the most extroverted person you will probably ever encounter. She hugs strangers like they're long lost family members and while she is the smallest member of our team coming in at a whopping 5ft 1inches tall if she stands up super straight.

Getting regular eye health exams is the best way to keep your eyes healthy and in working order.

The reviews about this place are not a lie. I have used eye glasses for over 32 years and this was by far the most technologically advanced eye examination I have ever had. I always dreaded eye exams cause I end up having a terrible headache afterwards, but this was different. They made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Shout out to Dr. Jesse Ryan and the amazing ladies at the front desk.

WOW. This was the most incredible experience I have ever had when getting my eyes checked. Why?! Well let me tell you!
1. SUPER friendly. Like seriously, everyone was so helpful, polite and even provided me with some life-hacks on how to put eye drops in! They made me feel so welcome, comfortable and cared for.
2. I hate getting the puff of air in my eye - I literally cannot do it. Not a problem at Airdrie Family Eye Doctors. They have a different machine that does the exact same thing without the dreaded air puff.
3. I did not wait forever to see the eye doctor. With previous eye doctors, I

My son came into the clinic screaming due to his fear of doctors. The assistant was kind enough to allow Hunter to “assist” and observe as the rest of us had our exams, trying to ease his fears. She was so patient and kind, yet so understanding when he didn’t want to participate in his exam. We were placed in the room where Dr. Franco had came in and completed my exam, allowing my son to help and assist. Once I was done she was able to ease my sons worries and he had his exam without realizing that is what he was doing. Dr. Franco and her assistant are true gems!!

Doctor and pre-tester were really good. Dr. Joly is probably one of the best eye doctors we have seen. However, the price for the eye exams is $30 more than the competitors and $50 for an optomap for a child?! We would have had to pay $200 to get the optomap on our children. That is crazy. The after eye exam service was non existent. None of the staff asked if my husband and the kids needed help. Even after he asked for a tray for glasses, still no help. We did send an email with our concerns, as it is a good learning moment and had no response. We will not be returning.

We had our first eye exam here last month. It was a fantastic experience! Firstly, they were so patient and kind while checking our 1 year old sons eyes out for the first time. Also, they don't do the test with the puff of air (which make my husband incredibly happy). My husband does not like anything to do with his eye, and they have been so patient and caring when it comes to eye stuff with my Husband. This is the only place we will ever go for eye exams now. Thank you so much for being a great business!!!

Dr Cowie and her team are absolutely wonderful! Dr. Cowie takes her time to make sure my Littles are comfortable for their exam. She even just gets down to their level on the floor if it gets the exam done 🙌 They have been extremely helpful on multiple occasions when we have picked out glasses and sunnies too.

Dr. Cowie and her team at AFED are AMAZING! Excellent customer service and patient care. This is one of the most beautiful and clean clinics I have ever been to- not to mention innovative! Have you seen their eye therapy treatment room!?!! I have RA and Sjogrens which leaves my eyes extremely dry and very painful during flair ups. Dr. Cowie… insisted on taking the time to see me and set me up on a treatment plan even when I instead that it wasn’t a big deal. Thanks to the care and treatment I received my eyes haven’t been as sore and painful since before seeing her. Trust me

I cannot recommend Airdrie Family Eye Doctors enough. I have a very shy, very stubborn daughter but she wants to keep going back to see the lovely staff here (and she actually talks to them)! The care and… empathy the staff display is beyond words. I truly feel like we are more than just “a customer” when we go here! In fact my daughter says she purposely doesn’t wear her glasses so she can keep going back to “watch paw patrol through the big funny glasses”! Dr. Cowie is fantastic! My daughter bad a swollen eyelid AND I wasn’t feeling great, so am self-isolating and will be tested for Covid-19. Dr. Cowie gave me a call and took a look at some photos and made a plan for treatment. She even dropped off some drops and a special eye compress to my home as I’m not able to pick it up myself. My visit to Dr. Cowie and her team was spectacular. She answered all my questions and told me what I am experiencing and what to expect from my new glasses. Maebel helped me choose frames which was a fun process, I felt like family. I was really excited to get my glasses and oh boy! when Lester handed me my frames and I put them on everything immediately became brighter and sharper; I had new eyes lol. I was very impressed with their service and would certainly recommend them to everyone

Was looking for a new optometrist in the area and made an appointment here. I was able to get in right away. The staff were friendly and Dr. Cowie was great and answered all of my questions as well as recommended options for both contact lenses and frames.
