True North is a company based on values of quality, pragmatism, value and individuality, and we attract customers who are looking for those values in their bike. Our builds are functional, reliable, comfortable and built to last many, many years of riding. True North Cycles was founded in 1993 when Hugh Black started building frames in the workshop of his parents' farm near Alma, Ontario, Canada.
Hugh's dedication to custom-frame building was tested and proven in the early years: the workshop was heated by a woodstove, and Hugh had to repeatedly collect firewood to keep warm to work! Most of the early frames that Hugh designed and handcrafted were mountain bikes, but he steadily expanded his repertoire over time to include frames for other types of cycling.

Services
True North will work closely with you to build you a custom bicycle, tailored for your specific riding needs. Check out our ordering process. After an initial consultation with you we will know what type of bicycle (touring, mountain, tandem, etc.) you are looking for, and all the components that should be used (frame options, components, accessories).
There are few things more elegant, or more useful, than a real touring bike. If you measure your rides in weeks and months instead of hours, True North has a frame for you. Touring is a style of cycling that is almost completely ignored by larger manufacturers, but True North makes custom touring bikes to handle anything from light duty tours to around-the-world expeditions.
Here at True North Cycles, we are proud that we control production from beginning to end. That means each True North frame leaves the shop with a high quality, extremely durable finish. What sets us apart from other custom manufacturers that use powder-coating is that we don't limit your color options, and often can match any colour you choose.
After the preliminary consultation we will setup a time and where possible meet at The Bicycle Tailor in Fergus where we will work closely with you to build the bike you want that fits your riding needs. During an in-person fitting process, we will take your body measurements, measuring your existing bike, discussing your fit-related likes and dislikes, and provide recommendations on dimensions for your new frame.
Frame pricing starts at $2000 for steel and $3500 for Ti (titanium). Pricing for complete bikes varies by the component selection and are quoted on a per-bike basis. It usually takes 4 to 12 weeks, but this depends on the time of year and the volume of orders we are working on. We can give you a more definitive lead time when you are ordering your bike.
