Services
Our bodies change as a result of what we do every day and the aging process. It is important to know if your exercise program is safe for you personally. Where there is a muscle imbalance, it will not help you to perform a standardized routine in a "one size fits all class" and it may result in injury.
Pacific Spirit Pilates works with clients with physical challenges and with clients for strength training. Our approach works because we address muscle imbalances that result from poor posture, weak core muscles, injuries and other issues such as arthritis, scoliosis, leg length difference, foot, ankle, knee, hip, shoulder and back pain.
After completion of your Posture and Gait analysis, you will start by learning the Fundamentals of Pilates. Your sessions will include training on reformer, cadillac and mat utilizing small apparatus such as the Pilates roller, circle, rotating discs, therabands and balls. Our goal is for you to progress from exercise therapy (Clinical Pilates) to maintenance exercise and ultimately to teach you self-management.
These sessions provide a more complete understanding and a personalized experience of the Pilates technique without the cost of private sessions. Exercises are performed on Pilates equipment utilizing small apparatus. Resistance training on the Pilates Reformer challenges your core muscles and endurance in relation to spring resistance provided by the Reformer and builds on the Pilates principles of core control, fluid motion and coordination.

I was referred to Yvonne by a friend and my initial goal was to try to improve my posture and strength and hopefully lose some weight as well. I am totally sold on Pilates. I have strengthened my abdominals and believe I am standing straighter as I also have more strength in my back. I have lost a few pounds as well. Yvonne assessed me and works on where I am weak and has assisted me greatly when I have gone in with problems with my Achilles or other muscular/skeletal issues. Yvonne is experienced, knowledgeable and empathetic with a good sense of humour. I always leave Pilates feeling good - never

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 7 years ago and have been going to Yvonne for the last 4 years. I can honestly say that I feel better today than when I started and believe that the rigorous Pilates program that Yvonne developed for me has played a significant part. She has always been very diligent in researching Pilates exercises specific to my condition and working with me to build up muscle strength and coordination. She has been very accommodating in fitting me in with my ever changing schedule and it is always a pleasure to attend a class.

I came to Pacific Spirit Pilates to help improve my posture and to tackle some persistent muscle pain. I spend many hours each day sitting in front of a computer, and despite that I intend to stay active and pain-free for many years to come, so something had to be done. I have been going to the studio for a year now, doing a combination of private lessons and duets, on the mat and on the equipment. During this time, my issues with neck and shoulder pain have been largely eliminated, my posture and core strength improved a great deal, and my muscles are more flexible than they have been in years

I originally went to Pacific Spirit Pilates for chronic lower back pain and shoulder pain. Yvonne Bray, the owner and Pilates Instructor is very knowledgeable in anatomy and rehabilitation medicine. She assessed my posture and devised appropriate Pilates Reformer Exercises and and Pilates Mat Exercises that corrected my problems. I've been pain free for over a year now. I would recommend Pacific Spirit Pilates to anyone with chronic back or shoulder pain, or anyone looking to improve their posture and well being.

I started Pilates.because I could hardly walk I was in such pain and stiffness with the arthritis in my knees. Yvonne produced a rehabilitative program especially for my problems. I now walk without pain or limping.
My body is much stronger and I can go on long walks and climb stairs without difficulty. I highly recommend Pacific Spirit Pilates for anyone who wants to enjoy life without pain and stiffness.
